It's normal to be fired if you don't meet the expectations of your boss.
Now-a-days it appears people are being fired even if they do a great job!

The boss sounded giddy too :'(
So you best watch yo back -- even if you're not a fuck-up you can still get fired XD
This. It's great you have a job right now, but companies like this are total shit. Get out as quickly as you can. There has to be more to this story, but if it is true, you should probably start looking as you don't want to work for a company like that very long.
Sounds like a terrible boss. The people who are most likely to quit the job are the people who can quit their job. Immigrants fresh off the boat will stay at a place like McDonalds for years at a time. Someone with a degree who desperately needs a job will work there for the shortest time possible.I think the boss's though process was, "Oh shit, I can replace this college student with someone with a master's degree! God bless high unemployment!"
stupid, I know
or willing to do the same job for less pay.but a month later the guy was fired because the boss found someone with higher qualifications...

That sucks for that guy, but I have never been under any illusions that my job is safe at any level. I keep a box of things under my desk (coffee mugs, some papers, personal effects, etc.) that I can grab in the event I'm shown the door, which I know could happen any day. Such is life.

I say you're lucky if you get a no. Most of the time you never hear back from them period.
that must have been a great morale boost for the department
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with that attitude...I've NEVER left any personal property at the job that would bother me to walk away from...
I miss my work belt and axe :^( I could have gotten the stuff any time I guess, but I didn't feel like it.
