1080i is 1900 horizontal x 1080 vertical
720p is 1280 horizontal x 720 vertical

I got my system set up today, using the TV-out on the MX400 (Abit Siluro). It really isn't as bad as I though it would be. Using 800x600 with large fonts, under XP. Some fonts like the ones in IE are still small though and are a bit difficult to read. All in all I think the quality is okay, I am not complaining.

Since You are using XP try to enable clear type fonts
Also did you just select large font under appearance? Or did you go to display properties, settings, advanced, eneral and select large fonts ther as well.
And also did you use TV Tool?

Yes I enabled Clear type fonts but it didn't really show up as dramatically as it does on a monitor...
I just selected Extra Large Fonts under Appearance, I didnt think to go into advance, thanks.
I did install Tvtool and run it, and I couldn't really see what it did? I tweaked a couple of options but I wasn't sure whether they stay put or if you have to run tvtool every time you boot up. Maybe I was not using the best options...I haven't has chance to look properly really

Are you using reference drivers from nvidia or from manufacturer? Manufcturer may have implimented the TV out properly so that TV Tool would not have to be used. I set TV tool to overscan a bit, I think it is the desktop setting. Some of your stuff will be off the screen but much better picture that way

I'm so jealous of all the users that have success with TV-tool. It works when i switch devices through device manager (using winXP), but I get nothing but a blank screen with Tv-tool. My Gainward GF3 has only*ok* output, so i'd love to see what improvements i could get with this program. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

I am using the Nvidia Detonator XP drivers, version 23.81 I believe. I will have another play around with tvtool.

Holy sh*t, tvtool made a HUGE difference. I was about to scrap my plans to make a divx box because I couldnt find decent enough tv-out.

The standard nvidia reference tvout had horrible text, and the entire picture was way way too bright and milky. It didnt even take up the whole screen, and the filtering was horrible.

Installed tvtool. Black became BLACK, instead of grey. I could set it so it took up the entire screen. I was able to put on a fine dvd filter, a text enchancement filter, and an adaptive text filter. HUGE difference.

What I thought were inherent problems with tv-output were not, and, some of those divxs look perfect dvd quality now.

Worth the $10 registration any day. Try it out, its soooo worth it.

BTW, beta6 of tvtool didnt work for me, if you had problems, try out version 5.5.

My suggested settings (if they apply to your chip):
Set the res to 640x480, turn off macrovision, set it so the entire desktop shows (fullscreen was overkill for me). Click enhanced text, set flickerfilter to DVD-N, and adaptive filter to 5. Leave the rest at default. If you want to mess with color and contrast, youre better off doing it on your tv.

Create a shortcut to your startup group, and itll start up every time. Then just ctrl-F1 for tv-out, and ctrl-F2 for monitor. Sweet.

Anyone care to comment on the Radeon VE with TV-out? It comes in very cheap @ about $48 shipped. Is there a quality difference between an 8500 AIW TV-out and this el cheap VE edition?
