just want to know which is better....and if there are different situations in which one is better than another, explain that

someone did a big thread on this a while ago.

the conclusion was that value ram running at dividers performed well vs. high speed tccd memory running 1:1 with high HTT.

me personally... i'm a fan of tccd 1:1 overclocking but i haven't done any extensive tests.

yeah there is an article on this at neoseeker. lower multipliers on A64 platform do jack squat. 0-1fps difference in games. benchmarking was about the only difference and even that was very small. Also, HTT at 1x didn't make much of a difference.
using 1:1 with overclocking gave 20-30% increase over The same OC with a divider. And that was at 267MHz(DDR534)!!!

edit: here it is

edit for correct info

crap just realized that says nothing about latencies...
i'm pretty sure the difference between 2 and 3CAS latency is pretty minimal. such that memory speeds (OCing) would make a bigger difference.

I have 2 1 gig's of OCZ platinum so what would be my best option? I have A64 3200 (with zalman), the plat runs at good low timings so I run that with a little OC (215 htt), would it be better for me to loosen the timings and crank up the OC? would that be a waste of good timing memory? I only care about game performance, thanks

Yeah crank up the speed. however OCZ platinums are rated for a pretty high voltage. Try uping the Vdimm voltage and seeing if you can keep the tight timings and increase MHz at the same time.

you could also just do your own benchmarking to see what is most stable/ gives best performance...

game demos, 3dmark05/06, aquamark, etc.

what should the timings be if i'm gona oc, right now my mems at 2.5-3-3-7 is that loose enough or...?

thx

possibly. I can say that the 2 middle numbers RAS to CAS delay and RAS precharge are the most important/have the most effect with pentiums (not sure about AMD).
you don't want alot of speed with horrible timing, and you may be wasting potential with stock speed and tight timings.
The best thing to do would be to try it yourself, and run some benching on what is important. like a 3dmark for games, etc.

With graphics settings turned up in games, the difference is ridiculously marginal.

There's a sort of balance between tight timings @ lower speeds & looser timings at higher speeds.

Overall, the difference is very small.

But if you really want to find out which works better, run your own tests.

I did a very few informal tests, & the difference is just too small to get overly worried about either way.

First that comment about the OCZ platinum rated for High voltage that is incorrect, they are specced for 2.8v, which I don't consider high voltage.
I would consider 3.0v+ to be high voltage.

I think its better to use a divider and keep the memory close to stock speed with tight timings. i've had those OCZ platinums running at 216 mhz, And had to use 2.5-2-3-5 1T timings.

couldn't boot at 2-3-2-5 at that speed.

I think that for amd running it at 1T instead of 2T is the most important for speed in respect to timings. Running the memory at 1:1 definately speeds things up, though.
