This is pretty disturbing news. Is this just another level of their incompetance or is there something else behind this?
You'ld think after 2 weeks they'ld have something, anything, at least be able to reassure us.

After the WTC attack and this, the federal gov't can't be building much confidence in their ability to protect their citizens.

Um, everybody and his mother has anthrax. Until a few years ago Joe Blow on the street could get it from the labs in America if he could convince someone it was for research, or bribe someone. Many countries are capable of producing antrax in quantity. And if I am not mistaken didn't they determine that at least some of it came from that lab in Iowa?

I was thinking of more that they were keeping any leads they had secret as to not tipping off the soruce.

The have an idea what city they were mailed from, but how do you narrow down billions of pieces of mail with fake return addresses to an exact point of origin? IF there are finger prints and IF these prints are on the NCIC computers they might find a clue.. but I doubt that has happened or else we would be seeing arrests. So how would you suggest they find out unless someone reports it?

just because you havent heard anything doesnt mean the FBI doesnt know anything. they tend to keep things secretive so that it doesnt spill out and ruin an investigation

Well, unless you want identification required for every piece of mail sent I don't see a way around some mail remaining anonymous (hence almost completely untraceable).

As long as we continue to live in a free society, there will always be certain vulnerabilities. You have to make the sacrifices.

Using the techniques of forensic science on anthrax in an attempt to determine where it originated is almost impossible. The FBI must rely on the envelope itself, which yields very little clues to begin with, and then less and less as it makes its way through the postal system.

I believe the anthrax is coming from a group loosely associated with al Queda, because, thus far, only politicians and the media are being targeted. I don't want to go through the reasons agains, they are here:

Don't expect any arrests in connection to these anthrax attacks anytime soon unless a substantial piece of evidence presents itself or the perpetrators slip up (both unlikely).
