The fastest CPU that Epox 8K7A can support?...

I couldn't find any information about the fastest CPU that the Epox 8K7A mobo can support. I know the BIOS can be flashed later, but isn't the clock multiplier set PHYSICALLY?

Which brings me to this question,
What is the highest clock multiplier that can be set on the Epox 8K7A?

Please dump your links and other info on me.

if i'm not mistaken the clock multiplier is only set physically on the cpu not the mobo. A bios flash could easily add more multipliers. The limitation would be in the clock generator chip and crystal along with voltage modules on the mobo.

So to answer your question i'd bet that mobo will do 2Ghz (133x15)
Also to see the highest clock multiplier go into your bios and look

heres a perfect example of why I don't think the multiplier support matters.

remember Intel BX chipsets? their multipliers maxed out at something like 8x, yet they have CPUs using much higher multipliers running no problem!

if you're overclocking, THEN multiplier support for your motherboard matters.. BTW, didn't anyone notice that the Palomino has an extra set of bridges on it?

I think the currently shipping BIOS for the Epox has a max multiplier setting of 12.5 and with the "standard" FSB of 133MHz this results in a max possible clock of 1.67 GHz. Now the max multiplier setting can be adjusted in a future BIOS update (mine was for the ASUS PB3-F) this occurs by reassigning one of the current multiplier settings to something higher (maybe up to 15). I think on Epox's web site they listed it compatible up to the 1.3 GHz T-bird, but that is just what they had tested to when they made that page. I am sure it will go well beyond that right now, but there isn't that much further to go yet with the T-birds.

BTW - The 8K7A is compatible with the Palomino processors, which should ramp up to atleast 2GHz. I'm glad that I won't have to buy a new motherboard the next time I upgrade, this Epox has been great.
