Man its gonna be a Ricer-infested heaven at the AMC 30 in The Block at Orange (in Orange County, CA). Ricers would ESPECIALLY go to The Block since people get student discount here...

aren't the box office records broken like every single summer, with the latest big summer action flick beating out last years?

are there any box office records that still stand that are more than just a couple years old?

Mad racing (attempts at it)going on right now here on Memorial, one of the most congested roads on a weekend night. I just got back from the movie and saw some fun rice mobiles go under trucks.

Best part of the movie...Jordana Brewster. yummy

edit I am in Tulsa.

I saw it at our local theatre..I thought it was a phat movie...but our theatre was far from sold out. Still a sweet movie, but a niche film...not a mass-appealing film like Titanic or the like.

<< If I remember correctly, Titanic is in the top list, if not the #1 for sales. >>

Overall it is the number one selling movie of all time. But its inital weekend was pretty bad compared to other movies. However those stupid 13 year old teenage girls who went and saw it (literally) 10 or 20 times ended up pushing it to number 1.

Actually no they are not broken every summer. The $85million or so 5-day holiday taking still stands, and has for a number of years, as has 3-Day Holiday and 3-Day non holiday. They HAVEN'T been broken in a number of years, if I recall correctly. Jurrasic Park: The Lost World still holds the title of opening weekend gross, and it came out in 1997, 4 years ago..

Over 11million people in the course of three days have to see it at $7.50 a pop for it to break a record. Seeing as most people see twilight(the $4.25 tickets, movies that start from 5pm-7pm), alot more than 11million people need to see it. 11million people aren't going to see this crappy movie over this weekend.

Also its very unlikely it will come ANYWHERE close to breaking a record. The Mummy Returns opened on close to 3,500 screens, The Fast and The Furious only opened on 2,628. Thats almost 1,000 screens LESS, 1000 screens is anywhere from 4,000-5,000 less showings which is ALOT. All the analysts are pegging Fast and Furious to pull in $18million Fri-Sun and taking #3 after Dr2 and Boob Raider.

You guys are way overestimating.

As for Titantic as someone mentioned earlier it didn't really have a good opening cosidering how much it cost to produce. It ranks at #72 on the list of top opening weekend grosses. As someone said, it was all the young females that thought Leo was "hot" that kept seeing it over and over again.

This movie is definately not being viewed by just ricers. I went to it tonight and there were so many younger kids around 8-12 that I saw there. Since it's PG-13, it is being viewed by a larger group of people. Also outside the theater where I saw it, there were cops all around. This is happening everywhere that this movie is playing. Riceboys go to watch it then speed out of the theaters like maniacs in their POS Civic riceboxes. I can't stand those cars! Anyone else hate the idea of buying a cheap car and putting expensive mods and performance parts into it? I'd much rather spend a more on a nicer car and mod some of it. The riceboxes are a trend that I can't stand...

And they say movies don't influence people.

I have a feeling you're being sarcastic...

These people didn't start making their cars look that way over the past few weeks just because this movie was coming out...they've been doing it for years now. I bet the people who made this movie are squealing with pride (hell yah I just made up a cliche on the fly) because CNN and BET are saying that they just created a whole new culture with their one movie.

I haven't seen the movie but it seems like there's a few muscle cars in that movie and the actors certainly aren't all Asian...there's a white guy, some Hispanic guy, some black guy, and some Asian guy in the commercial.

Also, I think when people talk about rice cars, they're pretty much limiting it to Japanese and Korean cars...and no, there are a great deal of White people (errr...cackasians, Anglo Americans, Americans of European descent...I don't know what you want to be called) who do this stuff to their Asian-built economy cars too

Okay, well I'm just gonna beat the crap out of this thread since I don't like editing...

I think it looks stupid to fix up an economy car too but you gotta think about it. Those kids got their car from their parents (immigrant parents most likely) who can't afford big expensive cars. They're just being proud of what they have sorta...I'm sure they'd prefer to be fixing up a Viper or something but they can't. They just can't. Why can't you see that?

Who cares? Part of the fun is fixing up the car to see how much one can push the limits.

b0mbrman, you make a point to a certain extent, but what I dont understand is when the kid gets a Neon, and puts 15k worth of mods onto it... THAT doesnt make any sense to me when that 15k could have gone towards a MUCH nicer car... But thats just MO...

beast mom and day would only buy a neon for him, and a neon insurance is all he could afford..

thats the reason they do it. They'll slave at (insert low paying job) 30 hours a week and spend every dime on their car.

I sorta understand, to a point. Crap i've spent $5500 on my $3000 car in the past 3 months to upgrade it. (trans, turbo, suspension, stereo). But at least i have a car thats semi-rare.

You were/are a teen once. It's important to have your own style. Your own look, in the clothes you wear, and the group of people you hang with. Individuality is important, still is.

Maybe thats why they rice out their cars. They can't afford a real mod, because they dont have a mad phat job or credit line, they can afford bits and pieces here and there. Dropping $3K on a turbo plus tuning isn't possible. Many people would freak out if they did something like that. But $300/week on a wing, or some rims, or some home-made mods.. Not too hard to swallow.

I saw it before work. Kinda empty. It was a great movie though. No story line only action scenes. Which was well worth it. Poor cars in the movie had all these stupid ducts and grills. :(

Ja Rule pimpin a slow ass Integra GS-R with turbo and NOS got blown by a Civic SI? Not realistic movie. :(

I would love to see this break records, or at least do really well for no other reason than to advance Vin's career.

I expect this to do well, but I don't think it will get new records.

Some of you people have to realize that this movie does not cater to only ricers. I've been looking forward to it from day one because my FAVORITE part in any movie is the car chases, and I expect this to be full of them. Thats why i can watch movies like ronin and gone in 60 seconds over and over and over.
