And how long it will take for me [Athlon 1 GHz] to finish and send back one work unit, to show in stats ??

It really depends on the job. Somtimes it could take less than 24 hours and sometime it could be up to 3 days. It takes longer if there are more hits but more hits also means more points.

"The hits and molecules are not used to calculate the points.
Points = CPU rating x time."

Would it be possible to run both SETI and this on the same machine? How would that work out in terms of performance of both programs?

Certainly possible - I run D2OL and F@H, along with FaD on mine. Don't know Seti well enough to know whether it would share nicely.

You mean running client for 24 hours ?? :Q
that's quite long for me... How often the client save the progress [aka. how much will I lost if I turn my comp before sending result back] ??

I've got one that's been running 12 days straight. Granted it's a relatively slow machine, but 7/24 it cranks away. You can shutdown anytime and lose little to nothing - maintains fairly realtime logfile.

Just insalled and took a quick look at it:
CPU rating : 87 :( <- it's my Athlon 1 GHz rating :(
Time (seconds) : 80 :D
Progress : 1% [done quick math - 133 minutes to end, about 2 hours and 13 minutes :D No 24 hours crunching :p]
Hits : 4 <- is it big or low ??

So, I will be logging off now... Remember me about it tommorow [GMT+1 time zone !!] !!

I don't have any Athlons (yet) to compare, but 84 seems a tad low. What Operating Systems are you using? Anything else running? Have you checked for viruses and Spyware?

Time to finish varies as does number of hits. Plus, progress is not linear - depends on particular molecule being examined.

That seems right to me. Here is what I have:

CPU...........................Rating
P3 933.........................77
Athlon 700...................63
Dual XP 1800+............168 per CPU
P-M 1.5........................131

Hey, my score now is 93 !! That's rocks :D AMD all the way !!

7 hits so far... 3.64% work done :/
Uh, and I've lost 0.04% after turning my PC off...

And to answer your questions, BCinSC:
- Windows 2k
- Lately not, but I have NAV 2003 running [Auto-Protect]
- Nothing so big to take a lot cycles off... Oh, sometimes UT or Fallout:Tactits, but nothing more... Only IE/Opera, Microsoft Outlook 2k... Ah, I forgot... Recently, iMesh Light too [p2p soft, spyless]

Want to know anything else ??

Yeah Baby!!! We've overtaken Team-TNT.net and have re-entered the Top 25. Dutch Power Cows are dead in our sights and well within our reach - less than 200K, which are current production levels means we'll overtake by Friday easy. My new Dell machines just arrived, so two more P4 crunchers coming online. :D

Ditto! :D

I added one of my (former) SETI crunchers, a P3 1.0 GHz system 24/7. After reading about the cancer research, I feel this is an excellent DC project. I have a lot more power I could give to it once SETI 1 ends. To wet your guys appetite, I'm 32nd on the TA SETI TeAm and 1558th place in the world. So far, I like the client....that's an imporant part to drawing me into a DC project.

I set my only project preference to Cancer. Is that OK as far as gaining in the stats? Or will that hurt my stats?

Awesome to have you guys aboard!

Badthad the client is awesome and being able to watch them all from one pc is a big plus. Sometimes I have trouble getting the client to start right automatically. I'm not sure what is going on but onebody else seems to be having the same problem.

I threw together a 2400XP to try it out. Easy install.
CPU = 240
Hope it helps.
I am one of the top 5 producers in SETI and am hooked on DC I will be looking for another project after it ends. This looks like it might be the one.
What would it take for the team to make #1?

I have a lot to learn about this client. I just slapped it on a PC today, didn't have much time to explore it at work.....but I certainly will. The work it does can really make a difference in the world IMO, especially working on cancer drugs.

This is definitely a project I will get back to when Seti I is over :)

I found the client easy to work with. The stats are good and it's a damn good cause :)

Matt,
When you say it doesn't always start right, you mean it snoozes initially? All mine do that and I just right-click, snooze to kick it off.

On a side note, something weird happened to my dual 933. Win2K is nutty - maybe malware induced, but my CPU rating was bouncing all over map: from 40-180 (should be 76). 2 large jobs were rejected as corrupt, so I removed it from the pool. I think it's time to reload OS (was wanting to anyway - been too long)
