The fact that Reagan raised taxes and also compromised to do what was needed would have gotten him kicked out of the club. The first thing he did when elected Gov of CA was to raise taxes because he realized how much of a deficit the state had. The thing that Reagan was able to do was compromise. In his Auto-Bio he mentions that you cannot expect to allows bat a 1000% and get a hit every time at bat. Sometimes you have to compromise to get what you want. This is something the Republicans gloss over when talking about Reagan.

Hey, the Alzheimer's was probably already turning his brain to pudding by the time his administration was selling drugs to buy guns for terrorists. You can't blame him for that.

It's really amazing how the 'secret security state' effectively took over his administration (with his allowing it) and the story really isn't well known. It's a huge black - or red - stain.

Would Jesus Christ be a Republican?

No it's God that's a Republican, Santa Claus is a Democrat.

Why God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat

I have only one firm belief about the American political system, and that is this: God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat.

God is an elderly or, at any rate, middle aged male, a stern fellow, patriarchal rather than paternal and a great believer in rules and regulations. He holds men accountable for their actions. He has little apparent concern for the material well being of the disadvantaged. He is politically connected, socially powerful and holds the mortgage on literally everything in the world. God is difficult. God is unsentimental. It is very hard to get into God's heavenly country club.

Santa Claus is another matter. He's cute. He's nonthreatening. He's always cheerful. And he loves animals. He may know who's been naughty and who's been nice, but he never does anything about it. He gives everyone everything they want without the thought of quid pro quo. He works hard for charities, and he's famously generous to the poor. Santa Claus is preferable to God in every way but one: There is no such thing as Santa Claus.

He is the original Neocon inspiration for the big gov spending GWB, McCain, Romney archetype. Since I could no longer support such traitors after Bush...

Yes.

Folks like me want true conservatives in office, who placate us not with lofty words but with conservative action. I don't want another man in office claiming to represent me, beguiling the evils of big government while creating big government.

Raised taxes 11 times. He'd be thrown out of the current GOP for even suggesting it once. Norquist would eat him alive.

Yeah the current GOP while praising him as the god of GOP world etc would kick him out in a heart beat today. Typical GOP hypocrisy though, so nothing new to see here.
