The Dallas PD is a fscking joke. (the administrative part, not the officers).

Same with the Dallas ISD, the school board meetings that get videotaped are an embaressment.

We were switching to Impalas, but because they suck balls we're probably going to keep buying CVs. I would like to see some of the new Dodge police package cars next year, though.

My tax dollars are NOT going to buy luxury sedans for cops to pull me over in.

Edit: On a side not, the cops around here seem to be moving towards Intrepids as well. I've only seen a few Crown Vics.

Now you're talking! No fvckin' way I'd want to see our cops stuck in new Impalas or Intrepids.

Aren't you the one that has been bitchin' that even the Magnum/300C isn't big enough in today's age?:laugh:

Our cops drive suburbans after GM stopped making the big frame on body Caprice. Don't need to be fast, radio moves ~400,000 miles a second.

we had impalas for awhile but ditched them since when in chases the transmissions tend to fall off the car.

It sure isn't, but it beats the hell out of wimpy FWD Impalas and Intrepids.

And yet NYC cabs don't drop transmissions all over the city!

I see fewer crown vic's as police cars as time goes on. Definatly more suv's and trucks though.

They're just too damn small, too. Of course I'm 6'5", which doesn't help...

I said "a few", I didn't say "none." :disgust:

Edit: And that's a Blacksburg cruiser anyway. The Virginia Tech police are independent of them and they definitely have more than a few Intrepids.

I find this to be VERY interesting!

Maybe I'm wrong, but does that link go to a gay website with pictures of police cars? You have a habit of pulling these sites out of your ass.

Fords still suck. And the CV is a taxi cab.

Judge says Ford can keep snubbing the State Police
  • Firm won't sell cars due to ongoing suit

    Tuesday, September 14, 2004
    By Robert Travis Scott
    Capital bureau

BATON ROUGE -- Ford Motor Co. does not have to sell specially equipped police cars to State Police so long as Louisiana continues to pursue a lawsuit claiming the Crown Victoria Interceptor is an unsafe vehicle, a District Court judge ruled Monday.

The decision in the ongoing legal dispute presents a dilemma for state troopers, who say the most economical way to replenish their stock of aging cars is to buy more of the Interceptors, which already make up the bulk of their fleet.

"Our fleet is wearing out," said Capt. Jim Mitchell, commander of operational development for the State Police. Among its fleet of 1,100 vehicles, the state law enforcement agency has 429 Crown Victorias with more than 100,000 miles, the point at which State Police recommend replacement, Mitchell said.

The agency does its own car repair and maintenance, with shops, parts and expertise all geared to the Crown Victoria, he said.

    Illogical demand?

Ford is continuing to supply parts for the state's Interceptors. But an attorney for Ford said the company will not supply new cars, and that it is illogical for the state to insist that the company provide the Interceptors while at the same time pursuing a lawsuit insisting the cars are unsafe.

The court decision Monday is a new wrinkle in the legal chain of events surrounding the Crown Victoria Interceptor, by far the car most preferred by U.S. law enforcement agencies. More than 30,000 police and sheriffs departments nationally use the Interceptor, according to Ford. Ford normally sells about 1,000 Interceptors a year to agencies in Louisiana, the company said.

Pending lawsuits by law enforcement agencies in nine states contend that the car's gas tank is designed in a way that increases the risk of explosion in a rear-end collision. At least a dozen rear-end collisions with the vehicles have resulted in deadly fires.

Ford says the car is just as safe as other vehicles in such accidents and points to a federal investigation that determined the gas-tank design has no defects.

A number of law enforcement agencies in Louisiana have suits pending, more than in any other state, according to Ford.

In addition to the state, the parishes of St. Charles, St. John, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Avoyelles and Iberville, and the cities of Houma and Ball are pursuing suits in state court. Shreveport is suing in federal court.

    Class action sought

At one time, 38 agencies in Louisiana were part of suits against Ford, but that number has dropped to about 10. Ford is refusing to sell Interceptors to agencies with active lawsuits, said Mike Pulaski, a New Orleans attorney representing Ford.

Attorney General Charles Foti is pursuing a class-action status for the suits, which would place him in representation of all law enforcement agencies in the state with Interceptors, and also bring all the suits in state court under one umbrella.

When he was criminal sheriff in New Orleans, Foti joined in suing Ford over the Interceptor, attorneys for Ford said. But Foti dropped his case, as did Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee. As a result, Ford is currently supplying new Interceptors to Orleans and Jefferson parishes, Pulaski said.

Foti's office would not comment Monday.

The state, represented by outside attorney Ben Beychok of Baton Rouge, asked state District Judge Wilson Fields on Monday to require a Louisiana Ford dealership to fulfill its contract to sell Interceptors to State Police, and also to require Ford to supply them.

    Termination law

    Without elaborating, Fields said no.

Ford argued that the court cannot legally force Ford to sell a car, and that it was illogical for the state to claim the car is unsafe and also insist that Ford provide the cars. Pulaski argued that case law says if someone sues you, you can terminate your business relationship with them.

Beychok said the Ford dealership has a contract with the state and should be forced to fulfill it. Although other car companies sell police-package autos, the Interceptor is the only practical option for the state to purchase, Beychok said.

"We don't have anywhere else to go," he said.
Why does it bother you so much that when people need rugged cars for any hard service detail, they choose tried & true FORDs over the wimpy ass, POS mobiles you prefer?
