Be advised that it's not so much a thriller as it is a courtroom drama.

It's a little of both actually.

Personally, I think it would have been better if they'd cut the cliche horror movie soundtrack and focused on making it a dramatic thriller instead (getting scares from too much volume is the sign of weak writing). At least then the movie would have had a little focus.

BTW, I highly recommend you read up on the actual events after seeing the movie. The real story paints a picture of a crazed religious family and the affect it had on their daughter, rather than building a case for christianity.

Saw this last night. The possessed scenes were actually pretty scary, I thought. Being a L&O fan I love courtroom drama 🙂, but I thought this portion was just average. The prosecutor was pretty lame. What the hell was up with the moustache? Is that to show that he is evil? (Only cops, child molesters, and evil twins should have moustaches). Now if they had had Sam Waterston as the prosecutor, not only would the priest have been guilty, but he would have been given the maximun sentence allowable by law.

One thing the courtroom portions did well was paint a good picture for how the "possession" could have simply been an extreme medical condition. But you also had the things that happened to the defendent's attorney (clock stopping at 3 am, lights going out, burning smell). I'd like to know more about the "true" story this was based on.

And they could've picked someone more attractive to play Emily Rose.

I even hate the previews. I used to work the theatres when they were showing the original Exorist III. It creeped me out just to be cleaning the place in the dark.

Too scary for me to even think about seeing. For some reason I get really spooked by demon possession, ghosts and stuff.

All courthouse dramas should be required to have the "Bum-bum" transitional tone, for effect.
