why don't they just go public?
They want to get as many people hooked on gmail as possible before they go public and maybe charge them.
No way would they charge. They'd lose their whole customer base. Even Hotmail offers 250 MB free storage now.

I've been using Gmail for couple of months already. I want to slowly transfer all my email contacts to gmail, but the only think I'm worry of is that Gmail will not be a stable email service. What I mean by that is that since it is still beta. At anytime, Gmail can say like "okay, we're done with beta testing, and we thought that this email service will not really work-out". Next thing happen is they just shutdown/discontinue their free email service.

What do you guys think?

Not gonna happen. Gmail is almost as well established as any other web-mail like yahoo or hotmail, and you can imagine what would happen if they took one of those offline. Personally, I think the google guys have created a great service that improves on previous web-mail attempts.

BTW, to all those who keep tell us they have 50 invites, shut up already! If someone wants a new account, let them go to the nifty spooler and get one there. And since your invites reload every day, why not do them a favor and send them 20 or 30 every now and then? Actually, I think the only reason people are asking for PM's is cuz they're so lonely and whenever someone uses one of their invites, they get added to their contacts. :p
