Street racing is more than frowned upon ("take it to the track"), and a person found with stolen parts on their car would probably get their ass kicked before the police were called.

So yeah, generalizations suck.

Nothing wrong with what you are doing, it is no different than what the Classic car crowd is doing except with different types of cars. I don't care what type of car you have the hobby is pretty much the same.

Per the article "One Mustang had a racing engine in it, police said."

As a gun owner I realize what this statement truly means. My deer rifle in the closet? The media calls it a "sniper rifle capable of killing people from far away". No, its a deer rifle. Just a plain old rifle.

They've done it to engines now too it seems. Sorry charlie, that engine in your car? Thats not an engine. Thats a "performance tuned racing engine. It has no business on our streets and in our communities".

I say again, I weep for our future.

:D

They'd probably refer to your rifle as a "high-powered rifle." I see that one used a lot more often than "sniper rifle."

I was perplexed by the "racing engine" phrase in the article too... what exactly does that mean?

As we're getting out of the theater we notice a commotion in the plaza parking lot, but since the theater is all the way at the end we didn't know how bad it was until we tried to leave the shopping center. Every single entrance/exit was blocked off by cop cars, and then we noticed all the souped up cars getting towed out/driven out by cops. Then we saw all the teens getting arrested, and police helicopters using their floodlights to make sure nobody ran on foot. Pretty crazy for the sleepy suburbs.

edit: the cameraphone pics I took while stuck in traffic really suck (the vx9900 autofocus software isn't final yet) but here are some. You'll see one of the police cars blocking me in, a bunch of kiddies waiting around to see what happens with their cars, and the convoy of towtrucks (yellow "traffic control" vehicles and hired private towers waiting in the background.)

I don't see a single police officer in those pictures. I see a car that *could* be a cruiser in the first image, but otherwise all I see are long-distance or blurry images of what seems to be a fairly standard, uneventful shopping mall parking lot.

From what I have heard of the background story to this is these guys have been under surveillance for a while. There is an interstate 2 Mins from this shopping center. You can hear the loud mufflers at night screaming down the interstate.

I wish the local Police Dept luck in prosecuting these people. This area of town is very affluent(lots of money). It sounds like at best, without catching someone in the act, their case is very wishy/washy & circumstancial. I had heard the cars that were being towed away were thought to be non-street legal.

I live about 5 Miles from this shopping center.

I read that to mean the Mustang owner did an engine swap and put in a crate motor. But if it was just a run-of-the-mill SVT or GT then that's a dumb thing for the media to say without qualification.
