So what happened to the cop(s) "in charge" of the bust?Originally posted by: Estrella
They did that once in Houston and the Cops got Omfgwtfbbqpwnd in court. The only thing they can get you for unless you are actually racing are any mods that would make your car "un-street-worthy." Oh the irony.
I do not remember exactly but I think one Captain was actually fired over the incident. They surrounded a Sonic and arrested everyone on site. Even a 32 year old guy with his two young children who were eating ice cream. Cops are sometimes stupid as hell.

So the cops took cars from a parking lot? Was there any actual racing going on in this parking lot, or what?
Unless they have irrefutable proof that every car was being raced and every person there was involved the Police department will lose their asses in court. Street racing is BS but tactics like this from the Police are just as BS.
That's what I was getting at. They can't take the cars just because they were hanging out in the parking lot.
If they're hanging out to set up races, then the cops need to follow the cars to wherever the race is, THEN arrest them.
Which is what they usually do. I have witnessed it in Houston about 10 years ago. Then a few years ago they pulled a stunt like this and it turned into a mess.

So the police busted them for drag racing in the parking lot? I didn't know your could race in the parking lot?
I agree that ricers/racers should get jail time because it just isn't safe to race on the streets, but this is moronic. These kids obviously didn't race in the parking lot, at most they were just checking out each other's cars. And the extent of the police bust with bunch of tow trucks and two choppers makes it even more ridiculous... :///

how you going to run on foot leaving your car behind?
say it was stolen. Guy I know flipped his car into the ditch while drunk, got out called his gf to come get him, drove back to the party and reported his car stolen.
Insurance totaled his car and he got a new car.

Nah it's quite fun, try it sometime.
I can't wait to see the court battle thats gotta be so illegal for them to do that, since I guarantee no one except maybe two people were even seen racing.

Holy Moly. I am laughing hysterically in strait jacket sort of way. The human race is screwed. Arresting a family going for ice cream because they just there. Oh man, I would be livid if I was that dad.Originally posted by: OS

I remember reading about that incident, GD makes you wonder if the police ever bothered reading the constitution before they got their jobs.

I'm betting it is, but I wouldn't trust myself in the situations that could arise if I were a participant.Originally posted by: amicold

As the restaurant and movie traffic at the Stonecrest shopping center thinned and the parking lot emptied on a recent Saturday night, a different crowd began rolling in.
It was a handful of cars at first: a silver hatchback Honda with sparkling rims, a red Mercury with a loud engine, a black Acura with booming speakers.
More followed as the clock crept past 10:30 p.m. Drivers parked and spilled into the lot, dressed in sweatshirts and jeans on one of the first chilly weekends of the season.
It's an island of largely blue-collar teens and 20-somethings in one of the most affluent parts of the county, where half-million-dollar homes surround the shopping center and luxury cars fill its parking lot during business hours.
Drivers like these have flocked to Stonecrest every weekend for several years, showing off their vehicles and favoring even brisk fall nights over bars and their friends' warm basements.
"We just chill, hang out and bring our cars," said 19-year-old Quentin Brooks, a student at Central Piedmont Community College who drives a 1998 Honda Civic.

Is this it?
"Eleven people were arrested and 17 cars seized during a sting Saturday night targeting those participating in a pre-arranged speed competition, police said.
Officers with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and the N.C. Highway Patrol were stationed at Stonecrest at Piper Glen shopping center on Rea Road and Interstate 485 around midnight.
At least 30 warrants were served."
