I don't really watch movies, but that's cool. If I did a custom home theatre, I'd make a 1920s/30s art deco reproduction. Something from the glory days of Hollywood.

Why do people spend money on cars? Why do people spend money on clothes? Why do people spend money on buying a bazillion guns? Why do people spend money on insert hobby or whatever here.

You might not appreciate it, but no one cares that you don't. The people that spent their money in that way care and receive enjoyment from how they chose to spend their money.

Cars, performance, reliability.
Clothes, to look pretty to attract opposite sex.
Guns, cause they like to shoot peo-, things. I never said that buying a billion guns was logical.

Decent cars and decent clothes are acceptable though because they have significant effects on your outcome in the world. I really doubt a home theater you spend $15,000 on that looks like the Star Trek thingy is really worth it. Now, if this guy is a bajillionaire, whogivesafuck. If this guy has little money, he's really doin' it wrong.

There is no way that only cost $15,000! That's awesome, I would have one for that bargain price!

Yeah, he definitely skimped out on a few things if it's only $15k. That or got one hell of a deal on everything.

Exactly for that price he should have one regardless of his wealth! If you love films and star trek it's perfect.

lol, truth.

It's a waste of time and money. (I assume a lot of both)

Why do people put so much dough in home theater experiences? I don't see the appeal. Maybe I'm just not that much of a fan of bass or loud noises...

Each to his own. My sound system alone cost 10k...

it's... futuristic, that's for sure!!!!

I want the chairs to be couches or sofas.

Having spent this much money, he's probably waiting for wireless-HDMI.

Heh. I've got right at $1000 in speakers and $2500 in projector, screen, AVR and PS3 for my dedicated theatre. I'm happy with my $3500 setup. I've got another $1500-$2000 in sound damping and isolation that paid off big too. Pretty cheap by most standards. My room is very basic though. Only decoration in it is the sconces which were about $80 each.

I'd love to do a proper home theatre if I had a big enough place, and enough cash. :(

I guess if you're going to geek out, you might as well do it in style.

Meh. I never see the appeal. I watch movies on my computer screen while sitting in my chair. The experience is pretty decent.

I'd rather watch a movie on something bigger than an average sized monitor. And it's kind of hard to have friends and family over to watch a movie if the prime viewing spot is less than 2 feet from the screen. a couch is tons more comfy than a office chair.
