The end of Windows 2K and XP?

Microsoft Corp. plans to argue in court hearings next week that if antitrust sanctions sought by state prosecutors are granted, the company would be forced to pull its latestWindows computeroperating systems off the market and be unable to develop new systems

guess i need to learn linux now for sure😉

thanks for the heads up y2kc🙂

but a few questions isn't microsoft blowing smoke by saying they can't unintergrate the programs and are they just throwing a fit because of it?

not trying to flame microsoft but it just seems beyond belief that this would be beyond their capabilities ?

Didnt they once state that it would be impossible to do with Win98 as well(separating IE that is)?

Which obviously wasn't true, as proved by Win98 Lite.

The conclusion of this whole thing is going to be very interesting.

If the courts rule, and Microsoft is forced to pull Windows 2000 and Windows XP, it should make for some very interesting times.

(Good thing I have some Red Hat stock in my portfolio)

Microsoft could redeem itself if it designed an operating system that was more open to user configurability. If MS would design just an OS...nothing more. Have only an Operating System, and then ship with that OS a disc containing a variety of programs which people could install, so that the result is an operating system tuned to the user (so to speak).

It's all about choice. People want the choice of what they want on their computers...not what they are forced to have.

I am really curios about the new version of Windows...if it comes to that.

...somehow, I think no matter what happens, I still think Microsoft will come out smelling like a rose. They will eventually be back to their old tricks...come up with some new "standard", and push it on the rest of us.

...I still wanna learn BSD.

The problem isn't that it's not possible, it's that all their tools rely on things like IE now. You can have a Windows install without IE, but things work work because they rely on IE components, like all the help won't work because it's compiled HTML.
