Do you have any "objective data" to go against my stance? Instead of being a mindless quoter, quoting a mindless user, come up with something with substance. My argument is rooted in common benefits for the consumer, not "hurt PC user feelings"

i gave you a several arguments...look at my thread...

Can you summarize them, or are planning to be a mindless quoter for your entire life?

Duh!!! of course Xbox360 games look great right now, but videocards that yield a much better IQ than that will be available in 6 months and will continue to evolve while the Xbox has to stick for at least 3 years, just look at the first xbox, when it was out the graphics were "amazing" and many people were saying pc gaming was dead bla bla, and they were soon overshadowed by computers, and that's what will surely happen this time, again.

You're clearly uneducated when it comes to simple logic. When you make a wildly perceived claim, the burden of proof is on you. It's as simple as that, because frankly, the rest of us have been hearing your sermon since through the days of the atari, the nintendo, the sega, the playstation, the xbox, and now the latest and greatest. I hate to break it to you, but console technology is trickled down from PC technology, and is sold to be more accessible for those less technically inclined. But you're posting this on a PC user BBS, so of course you already realize that.

That's great that its based on PC technology. whoopdie-do. Now lets see you buy a compareable PC as the Xbox 360 or PS3 for $500. Also, these next gen consoles are far ahead of the top PC hardware currently available. So you lose in both a technical, and economical argument. Someone with an intelligent argument, please arise, as it is getting boring to swot away all of these initial flies. And yes, I do know Anandtech is a PC forum, that is why I expected some better arguments for the PC. duhhh

Perhaps you didn't read Anand's review of the Xbox 360 hardware, but it's not actually superior to current PC graphics hardware at all. It's impossible of course to do an apples to apples comparison, but the chip used bares similarity to a commercially available Radeon, not even the top of the line one.

You've succeeded in demonstrating not only your ignorance of the topic at hand, but also you immaturity through unwillingness to learn from this and your ironic eliticism despite your position in the argument that overwhelmingly favors the viewpoint which you disavow. For that matter, you were too lazy to read the provided links other users posted in the thread, Anand's review of the Xbox hardware, or the forum guidelines for which forum to post this topic in. Make it easy on yourself and back down before you look any more foolish.

:)

i think programmers will find a way to become more efficient in programming the games...look at the transition on the PS2 between midnite club and gt4...pretty cool

The PC game market may have a few MMORPG, but other than that its over. The only thing a PC is useful for now is Office work and maybe some TV. Of course the TV part will be obsolete once HD's come down in price.
Which is EXACTLY what they said when the Snes, N64, Game Cube, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, Playstation 2, and Xbox came out.
Ever since the DOS days when they introduced CD-ROM and CD-ROM games on home computers and people said "why bother?". "We can play video games right on our TV's."

You know two things buddy, jack and sh1t, and jack just left town. ;)

Until they incorporate wide spread mouse and keyboard support for games on consoles PC gaming will never be dead.

Not only is it superior for FPS controls but it is NECESSARY for RTS controls. RTS FTW!

This gets a -1 for uncreative trolling.

May be true, someday, maybe not. The PC (which the XBox is, in a more constrained application) will probably break up into discrete devices for specific uses at some point, but who knows when? This has been predicted many times before. Here is the bottom line at this time: any game I can play on my PC will look as good or better, and play as good or better, than the same game played on your xBox, and I can use my PC for lots of other things. If you can set up the xBox to do the same things, and perhaps you can with the addition of some peripherals, then congratulations! What you know have is a PC, inferior to mine by a wide margin, attached to an inferior display device, and located in the living room where everyone can bother your ass.

Consoles have some games with nice graphics, and also get the occasional port, but otherwise they're useless. How many innovative games have been released on the console compared to the PC?

i doubt any consoles can make a true FPS...

There have been very good FSP games in the past, just not too many. For instance, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were really fun and both got really high ratings.

I am pretty sure the only reason why pcs are obsulete right now is so people think that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are really powerful and it makes people want to stay away from PC gaming for a bit and that would make Sony and Microsoft lots of money. But within a year I am sure that the newest PCs will be better than any console.

I kinda agree with topicster here. Consoles are becoming more and more like pc's but with more focus on the gaming side. Also, ps3 is coming with usb 2.0, blue tooth, etc, etc. So plugging in a flippin mouse and keyboard should be no big hassle if thoose 2 small accessories is whats keeping people from not buying a console. This may actually be the first time were the technology in consoles may surpass that of the standard pc(im talking about blue tooth connectivity and blue ray here) The ps3 plans to be a gaming pc with the latest technology...just without all the other crap we use our pc's for.

-also, i dont see why people are listing upgrading as a GOOD THING...i love tinkering with hardware...but i dont like SPENDING THE MONEY FOR IT every year or so just to play the good games on a pc.

Even with kb/mouse you would need something good to set them on for it to work right. I need a desk to set my kb/mouse on to play games. I've never heard of anyone having their Xbox or whatever on their desk. I couldn't even use a table in front of my couch.

Anyway like some have said give PC's a couple years and they will pass Xbox 360 and PS3 up no problem yet again(gfx wise and hardware). Even now Xbox 360 doesn't look any better(if not worse in some games).

Also reason we ain't seen alot of sports, adventure, ect is because they don't do so well on the PC and probably never did. MMORPG's,FPS'ers, some racing and a couple others will live for a long long time if not forever because theres millions playing and I think will continue to play.

Furniture is a silly thing to bring into this arguement but i do agree. Also, kbs for gaming will soon be obsolete(analog/heat sensing/gyration) controls will soon be on the way and i think will soon replace kbs in the next 5+ years.

Pc will catch up in terms of graphics, but food for thought: the ps2 has been out for 5+ years now and look at the graphics it can produce here and that looks just as good as any pc game that just came out. So it may be another 5-6 years before the pc can catch up with 360/ps3.

Funny thing is that the games that really sell and keep pc gaming alive are the ones that require the least ammount of hardware upgrades(the sims, warcraft/starcraft, mmorpgs, and rts)

I like this discussion...to me it it all comes down to this: Video card: $300 Console: $399(not to mention the consoles will have the latest in technology, while the video card is just one of the upgrades required)

I absolutely hate playing FPS's on consoles. No controller will ever compare to a mouse and keyboard. Add into that the fact that consoles lose a lot of support after 4 or so years and that they can't be upgraded, and PC gaming will never die.

Support after 4 years or so? How many times do you think you will need to upgrade your PC just to hope to get the same performance as the console? PC's cost thousands more just to play games. No upgrades needed if you use it for the reg office work, and have the consoles for games. Someone give a better argument than this, or that "as long as there are PC's..." Give an argument with technical and econimical advantages. You CAN'T!

The new "console" comes out at the same time you will need to update your PC.

OF course PC's cost more, but they are multi-function products.

People dont just use them for games, unlike Xbox or any Console.
PC gaming has always been better then console gaming, always.

Call Of Duty 2 is on the PC as well moron, an its looking damn fine.

wtf are you talking about? The textures look low resolution, the gun reminds me of the Uzi in Sven Coop, the shadows look like they came from 2001, and there's no AA.
