What yall think I cant remember the last time I had a bad hard drive except when the IBM died,, hahaha yes IBM lolol Anyhow both of the other drives have been in use since for many years. Like 6 years I think. I know about the 40,000 Hours of Operation then the life is over.. Just like how fans say 80 thousand hours of operation.

So I use HD Tune , and the 120GB one is almost 39,000 Hours of operation. other is almost 36,000 hours of operation.

Soo I guess I have to get ready to do a proper barial for these

Yes, absolutely. Time to barial in the ground for these. Barial them deeply in the soil, otherwise yur data can be stolen when the satellites pass by overhead. 2020, bless, etc.

I dontcare you rock, funny stuff...

serious about which part the HD's dieing cuz its almost at 40,000 .. yes Im serious hard drives state that too , just like fans go for 50,000 lets say.

I will burry them like I used to burry the birds I would kill with my pellet and bb guns when I was a kid LOL..ya I will barry the faker at a dirt place we have thats plenty dirt and plenty deep. How far should I take her down, 3 feet or the standard 6 feet hmm. ?

Thanks for responding. I will go and buy 2 , 500GB WDC , as 1TB is too much work for HD and it can malfunction and break, tick tick on boot. Thanks and GB

3ft if you want nature to destroy the drive in good time - plenty of moisture and thermal cycling.

6ft if you want it better preserved and more likely to be found by an archaeologist in 1000yrs.

all the best

I'm in the same boat 35K to 39K power on hours for my 3 WD drives here.
No problems yet. I'm just gonna ride them till the wheels fall off or I come across money to upgrade(everything that's important is backed up at least once).

Hmm...

Not sure if the temps have always been that bad or not. I read this may be an incorrect reading. I have another identical drive with 15064 hrs and it's at 49°. My OS drive is a WD5001AALS and it's only at 35° w/ 7708 hrs. Got a HD103SJ on the way so at least I can retire that old drive.

3500 cycles? 4500 cycles? WTF do you guys do, turn your computers on and off 4-5 times a day?

That's just insane. Like look at a couple of my Seagates:

500gb Seagate
Code:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
  4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 80
  9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 070 070 000 Old_age Always - 26553

320gb Seagate
Code:
ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE
  4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 100 100 020 Old_age Always - 88
  9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 073 073 000 Old_age Always - 24456

Default power settings in current Windows OSes. My 2 day old Sammy is already up to 18.

Hey patrick wolf 52c is way way too hot for a HD. and on load it will go to 58c or more the thing should die by now. Really you need to cool those hard drives somehow ,

do what I did.

and to theh guy with 3 drives all at 35 to 39k ,, Just make shure you have a system image of your drive and stuff on other drives are backed up as well. Your gonna have to burry them soon in a month or two. I mean it says 40,000 hours of operation on hard drives since IDE drives it specifically said it on some drives I had on the top. Soo ya its not going past 40,000 hours unless God gives it more juice and it passes 40,000 hours which would be a miracle, another miracle..

I think all my errors on that raptor came from a loose cable.
They've been there for a long time and I have not had any issues
