What's the whole point of all this stuff anyway? What really is affected by having Analog? Can't the stations choose if they want to broadcast in either one?

What I want to know is where the small HDTV CRTs are.

Analog uses more spectrum. Digital= better picture quality, the ability to deliver HDTV, with less spectrum use.Originally posted by: FrankyJunior

Maybe, but why? Lose the 95+% of the viewers w/o digital recievers that don't even know the analog signal will end in '06?Originally posted by: FrankyJunior

You may also get several channels per station, IIRC they could split the spectrum per station to 5 channels. IE more available channels, depending on how they want to slice the pie.
Yup, I get 2 NBC and 2 ABC channels, shows up as 4, 4.1, 7, 7.1. Usually the second channel has news/weather.

Asinine, and exactly why gov't should have no say on certain things. I have seen HDTV. It's nice, but I've no inclination to get an HD setup any time soon, so if this went into effect I'd have to buy some silly convertor? Yaye. And what about people with less money than me? I guess they would too. Hey, if the gov't wants to give me a tax credit equal to the amount I spent on my convertor then I have no problem with it. Otherwise, fvck off and let the market dictate this.
digital != HDTV
The digital move has NOTHING to do with HDTV.

On the second page of the article it says that most people won't be affected even if they have normal analog television sets, because they already use cable or satellite. This really only applies to people that still pick up over-the-air channels via attennae.

i'm against this since i've got a nice two-tuner 32" tv and analog tuners in both of my computers. however, i subscribe to cable. are you telling me that cable will continue to broadcast analog signals after this even if the broadcasters are sending out digital only? this seems odd but would be my preference rathar than having to buy a bunch of new hardware or rent a convert box from comcast.

Doesn't matter anyway really, because they can use that loophole to move this deadline back, and that's what they'll do.

Good riddance. I don't really care for TV anyways, and analogue TV is out.
