Except Schiff, like Ron Paul, has been saying the same shit for years. You think Schiff started just in 2006? He has been saying it since the early 2000's. Law of averages says he was eventually going to be right. Recessions happen roughly ever 8-10 years after all.

People on both sides need to put partisanship aside and work together for the common good...

Finally, when even the die-hard right admits the recession is taking place - you are going to blame it on the media?
Get a clue already - and here's a novel idea for you - admit you were wrong -don't sugarcoat it, or misdirect it - admit you were wrong.

the irony in your post is amazing. you sarcastically say "All must conform to one national party and message" which is what Republicans have been doing for the past eight years of failure. "lefties" and those in the middle tend to be much more independent and often have disagreeances which is one of the reasons the Republicans were able to remain in power for that long.

Actually my argument was against the idea that this was the worst recession since the great depression.I even admit in the OP that we were in a recession. However, the popular notion on P&N at the time was that the world was coming to an end economically. And the data, as presented in the OP, did not match that idea.
This was written in August BEFORE AIG needed to be bailed out and the $700 billion bailout for the banks etc etc. At that time all the evidence suggested that we were in a normal economic slowdown fitting with a typical recession. Not some once in a life time economic meltdown with millions of people out of work.
Even today with all the bad news of the past two months we are still a long ways from Great Depression part 2.
Finally, the question that NO ONE, not even the geniuses of P&N, can answer is where we are in the economic cycle. Are we at the bottom? Are we close to bottom? Or are we looking at another 6 months of job losses and stock market decline?
BTW read the last line of my commentary:
My guess is that we see a decent 3rd quarter and then another poor 4th quarter (4th quarters tend to suck) and then perhaps next year we get a real rebound.

Most of the P&N members accept all intelligent, reasoned viewpoints; there may be disagreements, but there is acceptance of differences at the end of the day.
People like yourself lack intelligence or reasoning. I love my Republican friends, it's fun debating with them over their ideas and principles, but you don't seem to offer anything intelligent. You offer political groupthink and a Rush Limbaugh style of political commentary (ie all Democrats are socialists that will destroy the economy) without any real facts or reasoning. When people like you do try to back up your "facts" it's always with some extreme right news source, and it's a story that has been debunked countless times. OR you're not even dealing in faux facts but in opinion and conjecture, in which case your opinion is so partisan as to lack reason or even morality. There is no moral low to which partisans like yourself will not sink.
Do you understand now why some people here might welcome your departure? You don't have your own opinion; if you did, you'd use something other than partisan double speak and Fox News talking points.

With Obama backing off his plans to raise taxes we may come out alright.
The only fear we have now is that we do something similar to the Japanese where they interfered with the markets so much in the 90s that what should have been a short recession was dragged out for years.

Republicans held total power for 4 years. And I dont know of many people except the extreme right and the extreme left who yells a one party rule.
And yes while republicans governed like democrats for 4 years and embarassed themselves. They still have different thinking than the democrat platform. To think otherwise is utterly foolish.
Where have I said all democrats are socialists that will destroy the economy? Speaking of groupthink. Associating me with Rush Limbaugh and Faux News is a great example of another drone from the left spouting a pre-programmed groupthink response. I havent listened to Rush Limbaugh in 15 years and dont watch network news and have said so repeatedly on this msgboard.
Perhaps instead of wishing for departure of people you presume to know. You should read a bit more about what they are actually saying and tone down the kneejerk responses.
