I'm not sure of your point there. You seem to be arguing that because you are from the future I should accept your opinion as fact without proof. Which is entirely what I'm arguing against.Well, as a person from the far future who has popped up in your time, I came to suggest that the notion of silly and self indulgent are about as real as a flat earth. So as a serious and self-disciplined person, I am sure you will now agree with me, right?
I'm not demanding people be reasonable at all. If they wish to be irrational that's up to them. I see no need that everyone else has to indulge them in their vacuous fantasy though. If you could just demand that people be reasonable, the world would have been cured long ago, I think. I believe you can understand nothing of importance with out understand what motivates irrational behavior and the motivator is the deflection of the awareness of our self hate.
It's arguably just as valid as your universe is.
Of course I am not from the future. I was simply trying to emphasize the point that I personally do not view my notions of reality as complete or real or what future people may come to realize as we have come to realize in our own time compared with what people believed in the past. Naturally, my advise would only apply depending on what you mean by indulge. If you are saying that you are not going to buy into a flat earth notion just because other have, fine, but if you mean indulge in some retributional way, it will only backfire against you in my opinion. That it.I'm not sure of your point there. You seem to be arguing that because you are from the future I should accept your opinion as fact without proof. Which is entirely what I'm arguing against.

Real talk: part of the Flat-Earth theory is that there's some kind of teleportation system that immediately transports you to the opposite edge of the Earth upon approaching it.
Another part has something to do with Antarctica, and how the superpowers of the world are actively denying people from flying down there to "find the truth".
I'm deadly serious; was "enlightened" by a true Flat-Earth believer.
Edit: don't mind the fact that somehow, we're able to achieve teleportation, yet we "can't really go into outer space...
No, you would have to fly south. East/west just flies you around in a circle above the disc we live on. Magnetic north pole is in the center of the disc.Serious question (within their world view). From my understanding they think Antarctica is an ice wall that surrounds the flat earth. Presumably that means you would eventually hit Antarctica regardless of what compass direction you took. Wouldn't that be easily disproven by simply flying due east or west for a long time?

Anything is debatable, surely? Otherwise it would be possible for that to be true. I wouldn't want to debate it, but I also wouldn't hold any flat earthers in contempt. I do hold in absolute contempt anyone who would ridicule flat earthers and not religion. Why hate on some fringe, lesser species of the same stupid genus? Even if they're often coincidentally the same people, as one should expect.
It's a little confusing so let me clarify the contempt parameters.
Only religion apologists and religion itself are to be held in contempt. In the case of the apologists, it's to the extent that they stubbornly hold on to their naivety. After all, Jesus teaches us to clothe ourselves with humility, kindness, patience, etc. You'll know when your patience has run out when you suddenly realize that you're living under sharia. Fucking hippies.

Simple, it is unknowable as to whether or not an omnipotent, omniscient being truly exists or not by virtue of that thing being omnipotent. It is absolutely knowable if the Earth is flat or not. Therefore believing in one unlikely, but unknowable thing is not equally worthy of contempt as to believing in a knowable thing that has already been abundantly proven false.
This is not complicated.
I'm not arguing that our knowledge of reality is complete. I'm saying that the earth is patently not flat and anyone believing it is really has no grounds for that.Of course I am not from the future. I was simply trying to emphasize the point that I personally do not view my notions of reality as complete or real or what future people may come to realize as we have come to realize in our own time compared with what people believed in the past.
Well I'm not suggesting that we hit people with sticks for being idiots but if you share an opinion such as the earth being flat in public you deserve to be challenged on it.Naturally, my advise would only apply depending on what you mean by indulge. If you are saying that you are not going to buy into a flat earth notion just because other have, fine, but if you mean indulge in some retributional way, it will only backfire against you in my opinion. Nonsense. Nothing is absolutely knowable. And deism is another fringe species, like flatters are. Whether intentionally or not, you bring up benign belief in the context of malignant theism. Again, stupid or dishonest.
You should go to the flat earth forum it's interesting if you have the ability not to engage.Ahh, interesting! That's a pretty good way to square that circle. (har) Do they deny satellite photography entirely then? I ask because if you squint just right the earth could look like a flat disc from those photos but since the north pole wouldn't be in the center we'd have problems going back to what I asked about before.

Somehow I think the concept of time dilation is a bit out of reach for these types. And flights to the southern hemisphere somehow get time dilation?
Yeah they must deny satellite photos. I really only know what I skimmed from the flat earth society home page. Didn't care to travel too far down that rabbit hole.Ahh, interesting! I had the same thought. You can get on a plane in NY and fly to Germany then fly to Turkey then to India then to Japan then to California then back to NY. I'm assuming they are thinking there is some kind of global Pilot and Ship conspiracy and they are just traveling in circles but my next thought was why don't they bring a compass?
It's easier to just accept they are dummies
Similar to the super hot girl I went out with in the early 90s not understanding why people in Europe celebrate xmas but not thanksgiving
I think they subscribe to a "firmament" type of paradigm. Why don't they just look through a telescope? An average person can buy one powerful enough to visualize every planet in the solar system out to Neptune. You can see that every other planet in the solar system is spherical. Why would the earth be an exception to this rule?

See you've gone too far too quickly there. Why don't they just look through a telescope? An average person can buy one powerful enough to visualize every planet in the solar system out to Neptune.
