The episode : X- files season 11, episode 7 : Rm9sbG93ZXJz

Fits very nice as an example of a dystopian robotic future example.

Do not ask me why it is in German, i get English words only.

Available at amazon prime i believe...

That was a good episode haha

I almost always avoid those self-checkout kiosks in stores. I don't shop enough where I get familiar with them and have to navigate what's to me a new system. Usually there's something in my cart that strikes me as problematical to begin with (how do I get the thing to read the UPC, anyway, without a wand). So, I approach a human checker.

They added wireless checkout at my store & I LOVE it!

1. Scan cart as you go with the phone app

2. Tap checkout button in app in the special open lane, which auto-pays with your phone

3. Light turns green, walk out!

If it goes the same way as here you won't have the option to avoid them for long. The supermarkets here have mostly done away with staff operated tills, self-checkout is the only option.

Annoyingly every time I go there about half those self-service checkouts are out of use for no obvious reason, so there's still huge queues.

Most of my shopping is Costco, local indy supermarket and some Trader Joe's. Home Depot once in a while, occasional take-out. AFAIK, it's all credit card centric. Tap or insert, whichever works, usually one doesn't.

Our Home Depot only has one human lane now, the rest are self-checkout!

My Walmart only has one human checkout & a dozen self-checkouts with 2 people manning them. Half are always down & the lines are still huge lol.

Ours has one or two, I've tried them maybe once. I usually have 10 or more items. I set them up ahead of time so the wander can scan them all in 1/2 a minute max, probably 15 seconds. Human attended checkout lines are probably around 10-12 and they usually have two attendants, one at the register, the other with a portable reader.

It's crazy how that seems to be the trend now. At first they were adding a few self checkouts but I'd refuse to use them and now you practically have no choice. Our HD has 2 human cashes at the end in the lumber section and everything else is self checkout.

I feel like the customer should get a discount for doing the manual labor of scanning & bagging lol
