The DVD Combo Hard Drive Assasin

I recently bought a CD-RW/DVD combo drive from newegg, and as soon as I installed it I couldn't see my two slave hard drives when I booted. When I go into the BIOS, they aren't even detected - all I see is "IDE-0 @ H'hp 0" where they sould show up. What the heck?!

What drives have got installed on each channel?

You can have 2 drives on each IDE channel, but you'll need to make sure the jumpers on them are both not set to Master or to Slave. In other words, per channel, make sure the jumper on one drive is set to Master and the jumper on the other drive is set to slave. Do this for both the primary and secondary channels.

Actually using Cable Select is easier - set them all to cable select and the one on the end of the cable is master and the one in the middle is slave. You must have 80-wire cables on each channel and the blue ends connected to the mobo.

Where's the :sun: ?
