The Dragon Reborn (The Wheel of Time, Book 3)

yes, but after the fifth book, hearing the same thing over and over again is tedius. ...but it was A beginning...blah blah blah boxing ears blah blah blah, you get the picture.

be prepared for a geek war as to why Raymond Feist/George martin are superior to Jordan...

I enjoy the WoT series, but do wish it would wrap up...

yes, read the whole series, otherwise it;s like a snapshot of a baseball game.. you don't get the whole story..

The third book is a good one. It get's kinda long and tedious later on in the series as mentioned above, but yeah I just wish he'd start wrapping up loose ends, it seems every book just creates more than he wraps up.

Yes, Book 3 is very good. I would recommend going through at least Book 6 (The Lord of Chaos). However, the series does slow down quite a bit after that point. You can skip the most recent, Book 10, altogether as I could give you a two sentence plot summary of the entire 700 pgs.

The first 3-4 are good, quality goes way down after that. I stopped reading after book 5 or 6.

And yes, Elizabeth Moon (Deed of Paksenarrion), L.E. Modesitt Jr. (Magic of Recluce), Steven Brust (Book of Jhereg), Cherryh, Martin, Feist, and others are all better writers.

Edit: By the way, Terry Goodkind sucks.
Seconded. Amateurish descriptions of combat, cardboard characters and a fetish for bondage and domination (done much better by Anne Bishop in the Black Jewels Trilogy and The Invisible Ring).

Didn't read Feist, but Martin is way superior. Even the first 3 books of Jordan's don't compare to Martin's.

I'm waiting for book eight to come in at the library. The story is pretty good and like others have said, there is a certain amount of tedium involved after book four. George R.R. Martin is a great writer, one of the best. Still waiting for the fourth book in Song of Ice and Fire.

I can't wait for Martin's next book either. I check Martin's website periodically since he has been updating it with his progress on A Feast for Crows, but he hasn't posted an update since June.

A Song of Ice and Fire is a GREAT series.

I just finished the 2nd book, The Great Hunt, is it worth it to read the 3rd one?

Absolutely. I love Jordan's work and would recommend it to anyone (although I do sigh every time a woman sniffs...). If you enjoy the characters or world at all, keep reading. The characters will develop quite a bit and you will learn a lot more about how things work. Honestly, one of the things I enjoy the most about the WoT is how threaded everything is. Familiar faces keep popping up and events that you didn't even notice have larger ramifications than you might think.

Sorry if this post is a little incoherent. I just finished a multi-day homework marathon...

Through 5 is very good. Starts to get worse after that, though I intend to read the whole thing as I've already invested so much time into it.

I reread the entire series and I found that the later books although slower in terms of "action" are still good..just in a more in depth kind of way.. I got to understand more about the relationships between people and the politics between the nations rather than action in Randland

SPOILER ALERT!! DON'T READ IF YOU DON'T WANT A MINOR SPOILER!!!

Perrin still hasn't rescued his wife Faile from the Aiel, and Elayne still has not become queen of Andor. The rebel Aes Sedai still have not attacked the White Tower, and Egwene is captured in the end.

I damn near threw the book across the room when I finished it (Book 10). Pissed me off that it ended like that....

BUT, fansites that have some interviews with Jordan (Tarvalon.net, or dragonmount.net)are saying that 12 books is as far as he's going.. apparently Book 11 is to bring everyone back together, and 12 to finish Tarmon Gaidin... Course, it's all speculation, but nevertheless, just the rumour of a finish is a breath of fresh air..

In an interview with Jordan last month, he said he's done in two more books. Book 11, Knife of Dreams, is due out in October 2005. Book 12 will probably be out around the beginning of 2008.
