Insightful cartoon and sadly true. Things in the middle east have gotten far worse.

What makes me angry is that after 6 years since Israel left Lebanon President Bush has some lame idea that he can improve things between Israel and Lebanon or that he can destroy Hezbollah. It just shows how little he knows about the History of the region.

I was thinking that overall the area was pretty peaceful until Israel overreacted.

If I can roll 2 20s with that dodecahedron, there will be peace in the middle east! Wish me luck.

You act like these problems didn't exist before 2002.... the only thing accurate about that cartoon is how assanine the "axis of evil" claim was... it really always was this complicated...

I was thinking it was pretty peaceful until Hezbollah's completely unprovoked attack into Israeli territory.

Yes but a measured response by Israel would have been wise. All the destruction is not worth it for the the kidnapping.

Things in the Middle East are the same as they have been since the 1970s...if anything, America already knew the intricate nature of politics in the Middle East, and it was Bush who sought to simplify it...which explains why he doesn't comprehend the failures of his engagements in the region.

The only recent addition to the Middle East shell game is Al Quaida, but even that organization is no different then Hezbollah or Hammas in terms of its tactics and goals...the only distinction being that Hezbollah and Hammas have largely targeted Israel, where Al Quaida sought the larger objective of hitting America.

I fully support the fact that Israel is responding to an attack on their soveriegn nation. Military action alone will not solve the current situation but it was necessary to bring the acts of border aggression to a halt. It is most unfortunate that the Lebanese people are having to suffer for the acts of cowardly people. Diplomacy to resolve the crisis will need to include Syria for starters and I advocate sending Ms. Rice to Damascus ASAP to start the process. I also believe that once that happens that Iran will be more willing to cooperate but not before. It also needs to be made clear to both countries that if they continue to support these terrorist organizations after peace has been restored that swift action will be taken against them for it. The solution has many facets to it but the process needs to begin before the entire region errupts into something that will cause all of the nuclear powers to start unleashing their arsenals.
