When you click on the "Team Anandtech" link on the main page the site is way out of date. We need a new one! 🙂

I will be happy to help were I can... I may make some designs up but I would not have time to update all the information though. 🙁

No offence guys, but if you think it should be done that bad "shut up and do it."

AFAIK amdxborg is/was working on a new [TA] site ...

Looks pretty darned nice to me... granted that flashy graphics and logos take time, I think it's up to the community as a whole to throw some time towards taking our DC Projects pages and stats pages to the next level if that's a common goal...
But I do have to agree with n0cmonkey... instead of just making a comment like "When you click on the "Team Anandtech" link on the main page the site is way out of date. We need a new one!", maybe an offer to help with working on it would be nice otherwise it just comes across as a slam to the person vollunteering their time and skills to the TeAm... Some people sure do talk a lot and the offer someone else's time to do the work... :|

I don't remember anyone asking for flashy graphics and logos , just a page that is up to date like the very nice page Amdxborg has and who would a person offer to help since whoever has control of the current page doesn't seem to be around much if any these days
All of us aren't software or web experts does that make us less a part of Amandtech then those of you who are?

I find myself in the strange position of having to agree with PorBleemo. It's a shame a great team like Anandtech has such an outdated website. if you want to see what can be just checkout Ars's Food Court.
I was referring to this ( Are's Food court )Originally posted by: GeoffS

I'm certainly not trying to imply that there are classes of TeAm mates, or to slam anyone... Your comment about holding Ars's Food Court up as an example prompted my reply about the graphics and stuff. I fully recognize that different people have different talents and abilities, not to mention time to throw at a project... and am appreciative of everybody's efforts.

I think someone's on the right track here; a content management system would be a great benefit in this regard... give different people permission to their sub-page. All I ask is that it not be PHP Nuke or relatives, because our TeAm deserves something better than the yet-another-open-source-crappy-portal-site look. I personally would be glad to do something about a template for a redesign later today or tomorrow when I'm less busy, but I do not intend to take away from the fine work amdxborg has already done in this regard. Nevertheless, though my XHTML and CSS skills are passable, my PHP is nicht so gut, and my ASP is entirely non-existant, so perhaps someone else would be better suited for the job, though I'd be glad to help in any way possible (including with the management of the F@H section if a real content management system is implemented).Originally posted by: Crazee
I think if we could find something that utlizes a content management system would be nice. That way the webamster could setup the look of the site, but individuals who can be given rights to update content could do so without knowing a lick of HTML, Flash, etc.
As I have time I will look for something, but if anyone else knows of something that would do this inexpensively, it would be nice 🙂

You know... the stats server's going to have lots of empty disk space on it... If someone wants to point me to how a 'content management' system should work, I could take a shot at a barebones one... my php & mysql skills are passable... At that point, we could roll the stats, the content management, and all the excellent work other members have done onto one server... Is this perhaps too ambitious?
Geoff
I would hate to see you go to more work than necessary to make a whole CMS when there are solutions out there that could be put to use quite nicely. I've looked at Mambo and Typo3 recently when considering a CMS for an organizational site that I currently manage using manual "content management" (i.e. I make the changes to the XHTML files, and upload the content to the server via FTP 😉).Originally posted by: GeoffS
heh... I have no intention of reinventing the wheel... if there's stuff out there that can be used, I'm all for it.
As far as mirroring is concerned, I think that's a great idea too... mirroring the code is easy... mirroring the data is maybe not as easy... unless we're talking about having all of the update processes running on two separate boxes...
jliechty Having noted what you *don't* want it to look like, do you have some examples of what you *would* like to see?
