The Discontinued CPU Search

I'm currently running a K8n nForce4 SLi board w/ an A64 3200+ socket 939 single core POS. I was looking to upgrade to a dual-core 939 but I was looking around and I can't find any X2 939s available. Even more research turned up the bedreaded "discontinued" status. So now it's come down to either an Opteron dual core or possible ebay action. Just wondering if any of you guys know a seller, other than an individual person, who may still have 939 X2s for sale. Don't really want to upgrade both my cpu and mobo but it is becoming clear that that might need to be a necessary step...

Other parts of the rig: 1g DDR ram (another reason I don't want to upgrade, would have to get DDR2...)
7800GT OC
600w PSU

Any input would be great...having my rig called an old man is acceptable. Thanks guys.

Yeah, Ebay or an Opteron are your only choices, as far as I know.

Nothing wrong with the Opteron other than price

Opteron's are a great choice for a 939 board, though I don't what the prices are right now.

Check the for sale forum here. I'm sure there's someone out there willing to unload a 939 on ya.

I bought an opteron 180 to replace my fx-55 last year. The opterons are exactly the same as the x2's in skt 939 so you should be gtg.

I have a 4800+ X2 that I put in my parents machine, but they could easily get by with the 3500+ thats sitting in my closet. I still have the COA / warranty papers for it, was retail and you would get the stock fan too, unless of course you have an aftermkt one and don't want it.

PM me if interested.

OP: Do it man, do it! I have one and it's worth it. They'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers. A huge upgrade over a 3200+. You would be extremely happy.

I've got a X2 4200+ in the retail box that I never really got around to building, if you want it. I've moved on to Intel with their Quad core, so I will never use it. I have just kept it since I didn't know what to do with it.

interested in an opteron 170 (stock 2.0Ghz) overclocked to 2.5Ghz, 2x1GB ddr-500 and 2x512MB ddr-400 (all 4 sticks go up to 250FSB just fine), all on an asus a8n32-sli mobo (flashed to the latest 1404 bios)?

you seem to have a video card too...i would also be willing to part with a 7900GT as well if you would like.

heh thanks for all the offers guys, but I was hoping to maybe buy one in the next few weeks...Need to graduate college first and if I get a shiny new X2 I know i won't get my work done...but around mid may I'll definitely PM some of you and see if you're still looking to get rid of some of this hardware.

I sold my opteron 180 for $110 shipped a couple of weeks ago on fs/ft. Now that I have an ip35-e and Q9450, my file server, uh, well, serves files faster than ever!
