What a stark contrast between Asian attitude and ours.

Theirs:
Work hard, focus on education, not blaming/envying the rich for their lack of financial success.

Ours:
Endless welfare and entitlements, it's always someone else's fault (usually the rich, white people).

I am very impressed with your work ethic.

Socioeconomics is an extremely complicated subject and your summary is grossly truncated. The market system naturally consolidates wealth and power if left unabated. That's how you get 6 people having the same as 3 billion. No one can argue that to be a good thing conducive to a healthy balanced economy. I think it is okay to question the system, especially when the rich own the political power. Continuing to plant the 'pull yourself by your bootstraps' idea is a great way to keep the peons getting fk'ed over to be complacent. Asian cultures have a lot of pride and respect for discipline/authority so they are just as suseptable into falling into line as Americans are.

It's been proven that being poor chemically changes how the brain develops and without help, poverty begets more poverty. It's easy to judge from a distance isn't it? I agree education is important, but here that's going to set you back 30k in tuition debt. As automation continues, the economic reality is that an entire sect of society is going to be left out. I don't want to see the consequences of that.

I've always found terms like 'worked hard' and 'earned it' nebulous and pretty useless. What does working hard even mean? Is it time invested in something? Is it the type of of work? Is it how much ass kissing you had to do? Does a hedgefund manager making 1mil really work harder than a minimum wage person working 60 hours?

Though past generations of those "poor asians" killed (and in some cases, allegedly, ate) their landlords. So, I guess attitudes can change fairly quickly, depending on circumstances. I think the Chinese regime is very aware of that. Ascribing things to some timeless 'national character' suggests a pretty shallow level of thought.

That’s cute and all while ignoring that most welfare recipients work.

You're pathetic.

You want to REALLY know the difference between poor anybody and Americans in global terms? (This is cumulative.)

Last night, if you cooked your dinner on a stove or in a oven, instead of over a fire, you're in the top 25% of the richest people in the world.

If you slept under a roof, instead of under the stars, you're in the top 23% of the richest people in the world.

If the water you use to clean yourself is clear you're in the top 20% of the richest people in the world..

If it's also hot, make that 19%.

If you have a working tv in your home, you're in the top 17% of the richest people in the world.. Take 0.5% off for every additional tv.

If you have a computer in your home, you're in the top 11% of the richest people in the world.. If you have your own internet make that 9%.

If you have a working automobile, you're in the top 5% of the richest people in the world.

On any given day the poorest American (including the homeless) has more wealth than 97% of the world's population.

No wonder the planet thinks all Americans are so fucking rich and spoiled.

LOL have you ever lived in Hong Kong? I have!

They have a lot of welfare!

And the number of young women marrying age 60+ guys and having babies is through the roof, why? Welfare! Perfectly legal and the state expands it! Why? It's a way to keep the population happy and under control!

Those that actually want to get rich, end up immigrating to Australia, NZ, Canada, US, India, Germany, UK.. anywhere they can get a foreign spouse really.

Perhaps you should actually visit a place and investigate rather than assume shit.

Most of that is simply nonsense. Especially that second-to-last point.

Most of those sorts of stats are based on ignoring the different costs of living in different parts of the world.

I mean they are self-evidently absurd - about 1/3 of the population of Africa now have smart phones. As they are a form of computer, does that mean one third of Africans are in the top 11% richest people in the world? How does that even work mathematically?

Also it shocks me how many Americans _don't_ have safe water.

The scandal is how many genuinely poor people there are in a country as wealthy as the US.

Hmm inactive for close to 2 years, few posts in off topic like what do you do for work, now this.

Not sure what to think.

I view it as campaign season ramping up. the recent posts in OT are at least recent. I view it with a bit less suspicion than the accounts that come full bore into P&N after having been quiet for years. The overall activity level has been low since the account was originally created.

That isn't what he said at all. Those stats are shit, 3% of the worlds population would only be ~210M people. There are many more than that living in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, the middle class in China, etc. Misleading stats don't help the conversation.

So a non-sequitor (that apparently random photo/comment doesn't even attempt to relate to the post you pretend to 'reply' to) _and_ a distasteful using other people's suffering as a fuel for some puzzling self-rightousness of your own?

I honestly have no idea what point you are attempting to make. There are some very poor people in the world, obviously. A chart of global wealth, and even more so a graph showing how that wealth distribution has changed in recent decades (I had one round here but I've mislaid it*), would show a lot of complex nuances that aren't necessarily obvious. But your "stats" are distorted or just plain inaccurate to the point of being useless.

* the gist of it is that globally the very poorest globally have gained a little bit, but the vast majority of the increase has gone to the rich in the rich world, while the poor in the rich world have pretty much stood still.

The left has brainwashed people into thinking having to put in effort to achieve is bad and to stop before you even try, simply play the victim and blame those that are in a better place in life. The Democrats just continue to lower the bar and use that for votes by pointing the finger at those that don't buy into their bs. This is still the land of opportunity, make good choices and put effort in and you'll do fine in life.

My "point" is that even the homeless in America, have more "wealth" than most of the world, so the OP is whining. America's homeless have access to resources (shelters, food, free clothing) that the rest of the planet's poor can only dream about.

And you're trying to rob the people who put in their hard work.

They put in years and years of payments into social security and you're the one trying to reduce amounts of what they're entitled to or get rid of it whole under the premise of "saving it".

Fuck you and your brainwashed brain.

I never said that. I did say that many under achievers are brainwashed by the left to live that way, conditioned to believe they cannot be more because society is stacked against them, when in fact anyone can achieve. That's all I said, everything you are saying is what they've told you I think, you NPC.

Ours: Ah, HERE are the conservatives then. More welfare than all others and again it's always someone else's fault (usually ANY brown person).
