I am going to buy a whole new computer in a few days (Conroe 6600) but what i need to know is the difference between DDR and DDR2... and what the higher MHz means for performance. Can you tell me

ddr 2 has advantage at very high speeds, it uses less power. but at similar speeds its no benifit.

u have to get DDR2 for conroe, it would be stupid not to, the performance gains are greater than AMD builds.

besides, most conroe motherboards require DDR2. why the hell would you get DDR1 sticks for a new motherboard? the high CAS latency timings are becoming less relevant to system performance and system stability. it used to be the lowest CAS, now the higher the MHz, the faster, but lower CAS is good too.

DDR800 sounds standard to me.

DDR has a 2-bit prefetch, DDR2 has a 4-bit prefetch. That means DDR2 has more bandwidth at a given operating frequency, but higher latency.

For most Core 2 compatible motherboards, you will need DDR2 rather than DDR.
