The Departed on HD-DVD

For all of those battling it out in the format war this is a great price. You will want to order this online with instore pickup because I am sure this is a screw up online.

Hope some enjoy this.

Greg

FYI thanks to CAG, DVDTALK, HTF, and AVS Forums for this info.

Dang, BD is full price... Guess i'll wait for my Amazon pre-order to ship...

I am surprised since it just came out today.

Supposedly it is the same price in store as well. I cannot confirm this though until I get to the store. It may be worth a visit to the store for you if its not inconvenient.

No need to visit the store if it's OOS online for instore pickup 😀

Only reason I say that is that I can tell on more than one occassion the "online" system has said it was out of stock when the store has it. It probably says that because this is a new release and the system has not been updated.

You could always call.

Just picked up my order.. what fun. 🙂 The cashier originally handed me the Departed: Ltd Ed Steelbook W/ Postcards so I politely told her that was the incorrect one, and that I purchased the HD DVD. She then walked back to the store display and retrieved the regular DVD and handed it to me. Again, I informed her that this was the incorrect one. I walked back and brought her the HD DVD, and that's when she saw the price sticker of $34.99. She rang it up, and it rang up at $34.99. She told me that this couldn't be the correct one, as the price doesn't match. After a few minutes of checking and 1 manager later, I finally got out of there with my HD DVD for $24.60 after tax. 😉

They still think I scammed them somehow, I'm sure. I'll enjoy watching this tonight..

Thanks, OP!

Hehehe... I ordered mine online as well. I got to the BB and showed them my confirmation printed out. She asked for my ID and the credit card I used to order it. Oops! I don't have it in my wallet. Doh! She said I could just purchase in store then could call and cancel my online order or it would be canceled automatically in 8 days.

I go back to the shelf and the HD's are out of stock. I ran back up to the front (Customer Service) and asked for the one she had on hold for me. She was apprehensive to give it to me and said I could just get one off the end cap. I said, nope, can't do that. It's the HD version and that's the last one. She still seemed like she wasn't allowed but gave it to me anyway.

Very nice price for such a well rated HD-DVD/DVD combo. I sure like paying $24.60 better than the MSRP (after tax) of $37.43 😀

As far as the quality of movie, I thought it was really good. I can't speak for the video quality. It's very entertaining and I've been psyched for the DVD release ever since I saw it in the theater.

So you say this has the DVD version on it too and it will play in my standard DVD player? I may order it online since it's not in stock in any of my local stores at that price.

Yes, this is the combo - it's HD-DVD on one side and standard DVD on the other.

Is this the same screenplay as infernal affairs?

Yes, at least I think so (could be a different movie).

edit: This makes me want to go grab a 360+HD-DVD combo. I'm trying to hold off until there is more info on an HDMI 360, though.

D'oh! OOS for nearby store.

Same here. They had 4 copies of the BD version, eleventy billion copies of the regular and special ed, and a whopping 0 of the HD-DVD version.

Oh well. Went OOS locally before I could get home to get my GCs. Guess it wasn't meant to be. Thanks for the post OP.

OOS at my local best buy. Lady told me they got 3 in. There where about 2 blu ray left. So i had to spend over 30 at circuit city.
