I've been building up calluses on my knees for the last three months trying to talk a new laptop out of the materials people. The on I've been using is a dog-slow Compaq Pentium Classic 120. All of the other tech reps are using Compaq V300s (Celeron 500s, 64MB RAM, 10GB HD, ATI video). Laptop speed has suddenly become a pretty important thing, as our new generation digital machines rely on an external computer for all diagnostic analysis and software upgrade. It takes my machine about 90 minutes to do a software upgrade, and about 30-45 for one of the others. When the company mandates software upgrades for the DC265, you have[/b] to go out and do it, and that's an hour and a half per machine that I could be doing other stuff.

So my boss calls me today. "Dan, guess what! We got that laptop approved and they issued one that was supposed to go to a sales rep."

That's cool, I think. Then I remembered something - though I actually hadn't forgot, it's one of those connections you don't make until the very last minute.

I'm transferring to Colorado at the end of the month! AUGH!

So after the software guy gets done loading all of the diagnostic tools and access software onto my machine, I'll get to use it for all of two frickin' weeks! Sigh.

Think I could play Diablo 2 on this thing?

Pentium III 500 MHz
128MB PC100 SDRAM
10GB Hard Drive
24X/10X Variable CD-ROM Drive
ESS Maestro 3i Sound Card
Large 15" SXGA+ active matrix (TFT) display
ATI Mobility M4 128-bit, hardware-accelerated 4x AGP
16 MB Integrated video memory, upgradeable to 32MB
Integrated Mini-PCI 56K Global Modem (standard)

The weight is actually going to be nice - this thing weighs 7.2 pounds; my Compaq goes about ten.
