Detroit died from multiple stab wounds

  • Race riots in the late 60's
  • The steady decline of the US auto industry starting in the 70's
  • Government corruption starting in the 80's
  • A nationwide recession of epic proportions starting in the 2000's
  • The Lions

It's not a total loss, as Johnny Knoxville explains in this documentary.

However it's a city of maybe 600K or so living in an area that once held upwards of 1.2 million. Until the city shrinks and the economy recovers, it will be a rough ride.

I mean, I've never really gotten off 75 anywhere between 696 and 94 (suburbs and downtown, basically), so I'm not talking from experience. I love my city though, no matter what people say. Downtown is fine and the suburbs are great.

It's just like walking in the korean DMZ between those is all.

How long have some of those places been abandoned? 20 years? Can things run down *that* quickly? I guess they probably could b/c of the weather there as far as snow, rain, heat, humidity, etc. What a crap hole that place is.

I highly recommend everyone watch "Boyz n the Hood". Yeah, it takes place in Oakland, but it really shows the sad state of the ghetto and how it's a completely different life-- that even if you want to get out, you can't.

It's sad that (what some say is) the best country in the world has areas that have fallen into this state.

And almost all Polish whites to boot.

Pączki Day, aka Fat Tuesday ETA one month.

They should advertise that as a tourist selling point.

Can't waaaaaaaaaaaaaaait! I love it when holidays dictate that I veer from my usual diet. (Yes, it's unavoidable :p)

How can this be? Republicans told me that with a little hard work, you can achieve anything!
