You have a few good points, but PC "gamers" don't shift to consoles just because there are more titles and more power <now> with the console. Sure the XB2 and PS3 will be very powerful. I don't give 2 turds. Really .. i don't. I'll still be playing my RPG's on the PC. Lower power or not i can still play them @ 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 and enjoy it just fine. Go ahead and get the console if that's you're thing. Enjoy it. There are more PC devs than the two you mentioned you know. But i can tell you i fully "get it" i still don't give 2 turds. Impressive yes. So was the Xbox when it was intro'ed. Same/same though this time the console actually does pass up the PC considerably, but rest assured that by the time these things are actually out, 6 months to a year later they will get leapfrogged again by the PC. Who really cares. I don't. But as far as the console being a better chioce for many gamers .. i would have to agree to some extent that there will be more then a few gamers that will finally give up the PC to the console for games, but i won't be one of those gamers.

Exactly. The PS3 is a year away, in that time we will have dual-core CPUS, ATI will be up to a 512meg X1000 XT card and who knows what else will be out for PCs. Console will never compare to PCs. IMO.

I've posted this on another site, but it fits here too:

All this "PC gaming is DEAD" is starting to annoy me. Its not like the XBOX360 and the PS3 (I love the original names) will be for sale tomorrow. the PS3 is a YEAR AWAY! by then the G70 will have refresh cards! We will probably have mainstream cards on par with the RSX (that's the name right?) card. Now, the XBOX 360 will be out in what? 4-6 months?(I think). The g70 will probably out, and again even the technology will better than the high-end PCs the xbox360 will cost 500$. Now, people with already high-end pcs will probably buy the geforce 7800(whatever:\) Ultra/GT and have already good CPUs, and have, I believe, pcs with power about the same as the XBOX 360, maybe they'll need a athlon X2 4800+, but multithreaded games will only arrive at the end of 2006 I believe.

So really stop with all this PS3/XBOX360 praise, they're not here yet. Don't forget that the ps2 was 10 times faster than high-end pcs XD...

God dammit, yes, ok, PC gaming is fscking dead, ok? Now can we please stop with these threads?

I don't know how so many of you got so ignorant, but NOTHING is going to happen to the gaming landscape that hasn't happened before. In other words, PC Gaming will be unaffected by these console launches, just like it's always been.

I know this will come as a shock to many of you, but people use PCs for other things. Graphic Artists, CAD designers, programmers, all usually have hefty home PCs meant for some other purpose other than gaming - but they just happen to be able to game on them as well, so they do.

The PC Gaming market is one that occurred largely by accident, but also will never die, because it's not so large that it can compete with consoles, but it's too small to ignore as a money making opportunity. Think of companies like Blizzard, Id, Epic, and others that have made their HUGE fortunes off of the PC market alone. If they suddenly decide to stop developing games for the PC, someone else will step up to the plate and fill their void, because there's money to be made there.

God, think before posting, would you?

I think ppl who buy PC just for gaming and over the age of 18 and should be working or in school learning should be taken out back and flogged.....Parents who buy this stuff should be as well unless it has at least a 50/50 use for something important...

Trust me, America's obesity problem is due to one thing and one thing alone:

People won't put down the stupid fork.

It has very little to do with anything else.

Somewhat true but the fact is even if we ate the same caloric intake when kids sit in front of the playstation playing from when they got home from school to damn near bed there is no physical activity to consume those calories...So it easy to say we eat too much but have you seen gamers before?? Like 2 liter bottles of pop, saturated fat potato chips and cheese puffs, candy, etc....NO one games while eating a steak or a salad....If we are going to wash out physical activity for game play we need to stop eating almost in general.....

My son is allowed to play nascar 2004 when he gets home from school for 1 hour then he has to play outside (weather premitting), eats dinner, does something constructive with us and maybe we will allow him to play an hour before bed. However if he plays the educational games I will allow more time on the PC....Have to at least have 30min to an hour of physical activity daily...

Yeah, unfortunately that's what's happening... but you can blame the shift to fast-food diets just as much as lack of exercise. I personally don't game that much - I can't really go beyond an hour at one sitting or I feel lethargic afterwards.

The only thing that will seriously damage (not kill, PC gaming will never "die" completely) is when and if all console games for whatever system accept a keyboard and mouse as the controls. When that happens, I pretty much have no reason to play PC games because by that time console online support will be solid and the only thing I play on a PC is things that require me to aim a gun in first person (FPS?).

Let's not talk about consoles. Just take a look at the state of the PC gaming industry in general. Behold the same tired gameplay rehashed and rehashed all over again. Creativity has gone down the crapper in developers. Just look at the number of WW2 shooters are out there. And D3/HL2/Far Cry. And UT/UT2003/UT2004. Is there any significant gameplay improvements between them? There is also this new genre of PC games becoming rather popular: Rushed PC games.

The delivery of the games itself has sunk down to a deeper hole than before. Will you like games that cannot even work out from the box, but left on the mercy of the developer on whether they want to make a fix or not? Or will you like games you paid for that dictates you not to run it whenever it detects a DVD writer in your system? No doubt all these nonsense will piss gamers off, and left them baffled why did they spent $2000 for a gaming PC in the first place.

Is there any future left in PC gaming other than better and better graphics and physics each year?

Let's look at the old Mhz beliefs. Everyone thought more was better until AMD proved otherwise. Gaming will be the same way. Eventually one game will surface above the rest and take it's place on the list of great games (like starcraft did) and people will rejoice. Then some other company will rip off the idea and a whole plethora of crappy ripoffs will be born. Another great game will come along though...

Oh I absolutely agree physical activity is necessary (just to note, my undergraduate degree was in Exercise and Sport Science, and I'm currently pursuing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy). Physical activity and exercise is wholly necessary, but if you want to avoid putting on fatty mass, results are probably around 75% diet.

My point is this: If people ate properly, we wouldn't have an obesity epidemic. Yes, there would still be fat people, but they would be the exception, not the rule.

Another large part of the problem is our consumeristic society. If there is anything they can sell you to make life more convenient, by God they certainly will - we're becoming so spoiled and pampered that our health is starting to suffer. Make it illegal to use elevators unless you're handicapped, and remove the concept of drive-throughs altogether, and you'd see America's physical activity uptick a large amount.

It's the whole lifestyle over here - I don't think you can single video games out as more of a culprit than desk jobs or a McDonald's billboard. My view is that someone's health is largely in their own hands - I play videogames, but I also weight-train 4 days a week and do cardiovascular work 3 days weekly.

Wether or not you have your health is up to you. It's a personal responsibility issue, and people will either have to sink or swim.

Don't worry, in 2 years the Next Gen consoles will be just as 1337 as the XBOX's mighty 700mhz is now.

I see the fall of consoles in the future, as devices become inevidably more condensed. (HTPC, Multi-media PC, etc. things keep getting closer to one device)

Consoles and games will not kill PC gaming, game developers will kill it. Not much money is in PC gaming, the money is in console gaming. Unfortunately the game developers today make titles for consoles first them port to PC. But as long as games still come out for PC I will still prefer PC over any console. Even if I have a game on a console, I would most likely get the PC version if it comes out. Case in point: GTA San Andreas, played it twice on my PS2 but will get it for the PC just to play it at a much higher resolution.

The truth is that things change, the ebb-tide of thing sometimes tilt the other way. Just like the nVIDA/ATI wars will always go back and forth. One side may hold the advantage longer for a time but it doesn't matter because sooner or later it all comes full circle again. PC gaming might be regulated to a smaller 'niche' for a short time, but sooner or later the advances for the PC will come again, and it matters not if the PC titles aren't what the consoles are. PC gamers are still PC gamers, they will still play and enjoy PC games. SLI or no SLI. VIA, SIS, Intel, NVIDA mobo or not - it just doesn't matter because computers are flexible and fun. PC hardware always makes a comeback - it's inevitable. For as much as the console seems that it may legitimately leapfrog the PC, i expect the PC to leapfrog the console by twice that possibly within 1 1/2 years. Yet, i may still get the PS3 anyway, and be awed by it's power, but soon after that i'll be back on the PC and looking at the new hardware about to come out that will surpass it.

I am a gamer in general, whether its on PC or a console. I own many PCs and around 18 consoles. Even the bad ones (Jaguar, DS et al) and as long as there is something to play great games on I don't care what it is. If PC games die, fine, PS3 or PS2000 or whatever is out at the time will still be there for my gaming needs. While I have always preferred PC gaming its only because of the better resolution, game updates, online gaming and better peripherals. Of all the console systems I have had throughout the years, the only games I bought for them were exclusive to them. IE all zelda games, FF games, you get my drift. Lets just enjoy gaming in general. Remember, its we, the consumers, who control the market.

Happy Gaming.
