Keanu might do ok in this as Klaatu was a sort of a deadpan character, very even with his delivery without extreme emotion, and almost as robotic as Gort. He was an alien after all.

My concern is how can they capture the message of the original, when the original captured in time, the paranoia of an escalating cold war and the buildup of Atomic weapons.

Agree re: Reeves as Klaatu.

As far as the message, it could be about illegal aliens :D

I thought the Alien in the origial (played by Michael Rennie) was a self righteous dick. That whole movie is a big pile of liberal commie propaganda.

I hope in the remake, we kill the alien, commandeer his ship, fly his ship to the mothership (or alien homeworld), upload a virus using a Mac Powerbook, and nuke their asses.

The first book was good, but I thought that series got pretty bad by the end. It was painful to get through the fourth book.
