Had some time to kill, so I watched DaVinci Code, which I had not seen yet.

Wow that movie sucked.

All of the previews hyped up "hidden messages" related to biblical text and old art. Okay that sounds cool - I got the impression this would involve a lot of encrypted text in davinci's paintings. Then there was this big uproar from churches, because the movie was so controversial. Great, so this must have been a good movie.

WRONG - the movie wasn't bad, but about 2/3's into it it went downhill. The ending was pathetic and made the rest of the plot pointless. I wonder if the book itself was this bad. My key observations of this movie:

- The main character is good at deciphering symbols and picking apart patterns. Neither of which was useful at all the entire length of the movie. Because this movie has nothing to do with symbols or patterns. Unless you count upside triangles representing vaginas.
- I had a feeling the old guy's servant would be an enemy. It made sense that he would be the "teacher", getting inside info from the old guy. Then they decide to reverse what respect I had for the movie at this point by then making the old guy the teacher. After that I was waiting for him to levitate metal objects around in the air. What was the point of him killing the servant?
- That 5 character encryption cylinder - who cares what the password is. This is the 21st century. There are several different methods of cracking that thing open without spilling vinegar on the scroll.
- The scroll reveals nothing more than a location, which the girl happens to have been before. All the grandfather had to do was call one of his cult friends to come get the girl and show her where the docs were stored. I mean, given amount of time he spent drawing on paintings and himself in blood, I'm sure he could have gotten ahold of someone.
- The old guy / "teacher" has all the additional scripture, some even from Mary herself. He's got all the history figured out. Now he's just looking for proof. But how does finding a room full of lineage archives and Mary's remains going to help? If people don't believe the scripture, then the rest of it is circumstantial as well. The remains of "Mary" could be anyone. His quest for the holy grail was pointless.

it faithfully follows the book really well. but the book explains a lot of the events in greater detail. It was a decent pageturner, and a quick entertaining read, but nothing extremely special. Just a quick fun read; although his characters and dialogue seem pretty lame, lol.

the movie shows a better representation of the characters than the book did. Also, the movie shows more depth and skepticism in Tom Hank's character than the book did. In the book, Langdon was more convinced of the theory being fact, whereas in the movie, he just took it as a theory, and not really anymore more than that (that is, until the ending ending, where it seemed he did accept it as being it someone fact)

Didn't see the movie but read the book. I remember I enjoyed the book the first time I read it. Tried reading it again and some thinks started sticking out. The whole chain of events seemed ludicrous but I guess that is what they call a fast-paced thriller.

Pretty much everyone said the book > the movie.

Never read the book, but kept thinking through the movie how it seemed like a more expensive National Treasure. Thought it was alright, no desire to see it again.
