The Darwin Effect

There is a theory out there that tells of something called the "Darwin Effect". That is where a normally intelligent person suddenly mentally devolves for a brief period and becomes as dumb as a rock. I'm sure many people can relate to this. You do something that any sane person would have looked at and said "OMFG that is so stupid! WTH did you ever do that?" and their only responce is "I have no idea." Of course some people are born with it and live with it their entire lives and convinently remove themselves from the Gene pool somewhere along the line. (*see Darwin Awards*)

Do you believe this is inherrent in every human, only a few, or it comes in flashes and at odd moments just like bright ideas and moments of utter brilliance?
 
Yeah, I love the Darwin Awards (even though I think most of the accounts are fabricated). My favorite (aside from Lawnchair Larry, of course) is this lady who went to a national park and smeared honey all over her kids' faces b/c she wanted to snap a "cute" picture of a bear licking them. 😀
 
I dunno, I really do believe that people can and have been that stupid. Working in tech support really brings out this theory.

Personally my favorite is the trucker guy who shot himself in the nuts. 😀

Maybe I'm having one of those brief periods myself...but I think the Darwin Effect is supposed to the notion (maybe prayer) that people who are dumb enough to do the things listed will weed themselves out of the human race.

 
Yeah, that I believe would tend to be an extreme result of the darwin effect. Some people have a small touch of it, a "brain fart" if you will, and others go to the point of completely extracting themselves from the gene pool. 🙂
