The Darkness sequel (and movie) in the works

According to Newsarama, a sequel to The Darkness was announced as currently under development.

First a sequel to the video game was announced as in development, to be penned by Paul Jenkins. A trailer was shown, from the previous installment by 2K Games. Hawkins also boasted that The Darkness game has gone platinum on both X-Box 360 and PS3, and will therefore soon be available for $29.99.

I thought that last sentence was amusing considering the game has been available on clearance for $10-$20 from most retailers, as noted here on ATCG.


Apparently a live-action movie is also in the works:

Also announced was a live action feature film of The Darkness to come. There were no specifics involved, beyond that Scott Stuber Productions was attached, but Hawkins promised further announcements to come in 6-8 weeks, with talent to be named.

Finally, VG247 received confirmation that the sequel is not being developed by Starbreeze, developers of the first game.

Starbreeze CEO Johan Kristiansson has confirmed to VG247 that his company isn?t involved with the recently announced Darkness sequel.

?I heard that there were talks about a Darkness sequel, but Starbreeze is not involved in anything like that right now. We are busy on two projects together with EA,? he said.

I have it on my back log still. It is just sitting there and I I've never felt compelled to even try it.

Great great game, the ending was kind of left open for a sequel it seemed. I could see how this would be a movie, it had a decent story.

The Darnkess was a cool game. Too bad Starbreeze won't be doing the second one as the story was really nice and the gameplay in general was ok (despite it being a FPS on a console ).

A movie might be interesting if they follow the comics.... I read them a decade ago when they first came out. Pretty dark and twisted stuff if I remember correctly.

Yup. It's pretty clear from the Newsarama article that all of this stems from the comic.

I was jokingly suggesting that we might see another The Darkness game that is in turn based on the movie.
