This was one of the better horror movies, and its not a zombie movie.
No dead people coming to life.
A virus makes people turn rabbit, or violent towards others.
And naturally, the government is involved.
This movie has a low budget tone where the scares are not so much green screen
or high tech, just Alfred hitchcock-ish somewhat.
I would have been fun to make this movie,
I think anyone with a HD camcorder and a little film school talent could have made it.
Lots of farm fields. Small farm town setting. A lot of local talent was used.
Actually it was one of the few films made totally in iowa, in a small town of just some 2500 population.
So about everyone in town had a part in the film.
Reminded me of the film COLD TURKEY, in that they used a lot of locals.
But COLD TURKEY was a lame film meant to be stupid. The Crazies, at least they tried
to do good, and they succeeded. I see possible cult film here???

There are a whole shit load of law suits going on in iOwa with the film industry.
iOwa granted a huge ""HUGE"" tax break to draw film companies to iOwa, and companies really took advantage and then iOwa tried to renix on the deal(s).
Don't know if THE CRAZIES was one of the productions involved, but I think it was.
