In our basement we've got a:
486DXII 33mhz
4MB RAM (I think upgraded to 16MB)
480mb HDD
1X CD-ROM Drive---YEAH!
5.25/3.5 dloppy drives-->Runs Windows 3.1 great :)

That and a Pentium I comp, Pentium III Katmai, 2 P-III Coppermines, 2 P4 Northwoods (skipped Willamette and prescott ;)), and a P-M Dothan.

Lol...we could do advertising for Intel with all the Intel processors that we have...and that will likely continue when i build with the Core Duo

I just upgraded one of my computers to a Duron 650, and I thought that rocked until I read some of the above posts. Maybe I don't know how "crappy" is defined these days.

Let's test the definition with the computer I upgraded from.

This was a K6-II 300, on a PCChips MB. It took me 2 days real time to get that machine working; trying to get two other socket 7 MB's and a couple of different CPU's working. Never got a K6-III or the other MB's to work. Had similar fun with old drives, video cards, RAM, etc.

Worked in the end, but the old mini AT case was hot, and the computer would hang. Put in a slot fan, and then added a drive slot cooler to work as an intake fan. This worked, but the fan would act up sometimes, and the noise... OMG...

Still going on, got a wireless PCI card at a price which would match the above setup. Blue screen on boot. No response from manufacturer (TrendNet).

Now that I think of it, in comparison, the Duron 650 in a newer old ATX case with quieter cooling does rock.

Yeah everyones got my personal systems beat as far as age, but my parents still have a 286 IBM PS/2 system, runs at 11MHz, with a 20MB HDD, 256 color display, still works, they dont use it, it sits in a closet, guess you cant throw away something you paid $3000 for in 1987ish. That thing was the shiz then, leisure suit larry 2, wheel of fortune, snarf, math blaster plus, battle chess and indianapolis 500 motor speedway, played the HECK out of that game, was so realistic, and it was 3D, well sort of, the graphics were REALLY simplistic, just flat polygons, no shading or textures, but it was a racing sim sonetheless. You could adjust drag, cambers, tires, fuel, gear ratios and a dozen other things i cant remember, you could leave everything else the same and just update the graphics and you would have a GREAT game, still to this day.

I just moved so i threw out 3 systems i had in my closet, a P166 with 64MB Ram and a 3.4GB HDD, a Cyrix 266 with 64MB RAM and a 2.1 GB HDD, and a P75 with a 540MB HDD, those were the days.

I currently run a Barton core Athlon 2600+ at 1.9GHz with 512MB PC2700 RAM, 80GB of HDD space and a Radeon 9600 256MB vid card.

My wife has a Dual Core 3.4GHz P4 with 1GB dual channel PC3200 RAM, a 120GB HDD and a Radeon X700 256MB (this thing screams).

My server is a Thunderbird 850MHz with 768MB RAM (PC100) and a 10GB OS HDD and a 160GB storage drive for the picture gallery, it runs my website, an enemy territory server if i want it to, and my enemy territory team's Ventrilo server.

My laptop is a Toshiba Tecra 9000 1.2GHz Pentium M with 1GB of ram, a 40GB HDD.

Plus i have two PIII 866 compaq ipaqs waiting to be loaded to do something when i figure it out, as well as one 1GHz compaq ipaq for the same pupose, and a compaq deskpro EN 1GHz machine sitting as well. Man i'm a geek. =)

I can't see what people are complaining about. My current (and only) PC is a 550 mhz PIII w/ 128 ram. It gets the job done, if your patient.

I suspect I've got the slowest 'regular used everyday' PC. It runs Win 2k, Office, burns CDs and even basic photo-editing...

P2 266mhz
256MB
Voodoo 3
6Gb hardrive

...*Ok* it isn't actually mine, it's my father's ...but I get to keep the old knackerty workhorse up and running.

It runs like a zimmer-frame up a hill.

My backup rig at the moment:
-AMD Duron 950
-ECS K7S5A board
-256 megs SDRAM
-ATI Radeon 9550 (Replacement for the Rage 128 so I could run GTA San Andreas, which was a replacement for the TNT card I carried over from my even older pII that died)
-No hard drive, it's running Damnsmall Linux off a livecd (the hard drive went to my Dad when I upgraded)
-Some random cheap case
-No sound, the onboard hasn't worked for a long time and I took the sound card when I upgraded to my new system.

It was and is still good for general websurfing and stuff, but I really need to get another hard drive somewhere so I can put Windows on it again. No offense to the Linux fans, I just don't really know how to do much with Linux.

My slowest was a P1 66 MHz that had 16 MB? of RAM and ran Windows 95. It had to be upgraded to 166 MHz to install Windows 98. My 2200 MHz, for some reason, just doesn't seem 33.3x faster than my first PC, but it's probably because I was running Windows 95. Oh boy, Windows 95 on this PC would scream. I know fvwm95 on Linux does. Everything responds in mere femtoseconds. :)

To be honest though, I *need* a delay after anything I click, or it feels like I've lost control over my PC as if it the PC were running circles around me. Can't let that happen.

mutliple rigs, yeah. slowest machine: Macintosh SE FD|HD in my parent's basement vintage 1987 and a sunburnt beige now. 8MHz Motorola 68000 CPU. 9" monochrome screen. 20MB hard drive. original "SuperDrive" means it can read 1.4MB disks. System 6.0.7. Shufflepuck Cafe. After Dark Flying Toasters. Yee-haw! Not sure if it still works though... hrmm...

naff on board sound
20gb 5400rpm fujitsu hard drive

This machine from about 1978 is used daily at a local library to print address labels on an old Apple Imagewriter dot matrix printer using pinfeed/tractorfeed address labels. Amazingly, the printer is still common enough that ribbons and labels are still available online.

Sweet!

I just parted out an old P1 166 that was my Ubuntu learning box.

Now I have no computer of my own, just my work lappy (600m).
