The Courtesy Flush

Modeps

Lifer
A few weeks ago, there was someone in here posting their anger with a people that didnt give the "courtesy flush", expounding on the fact that it made the bathroom at their work smell terrible. Now, I dont have any scientific evidence to back this up, but I have a feeling that this so called "courtesy flush" is just total malarchy.

For those that dont know, apparently these people think that flushing the toilet while they're on the can will alleviate some of the wafting aromas in the air.

How is this so? The matter in question is typically surrounded by a viscious fluid. Yes if allowed to soak, I guess it could contaminate the entire bowl producing plenty of foulness, but that should happen long after you're done. I'm guessing as soon as this matter hits the water, it has already done it's damage to the air.

Your thoughts?

No, I've had submarines that peeled the paint on the bathroom walls... Imo it definitely helps, the shorter the time it's there to transfer odor molecules to the room, the fewer get transferred - hence less odor.

Depends on whether or not it is a floater.

Yes, I figured this was a silent part of the equation. I would think though, that floaters were not the norm and you should not assume that just because someone is in a stall, they've got floaters. Therefore, anger is just not justified in this.

So what you're saying is that even though it's engulfed in a liquid, it still has the power to break free of it's prison and get into the air... I really dont know if I buy that.

The explanation, I can't provide.. the first-hand experience, I can 😕

Why assume that the odor comes out of the water, and not from the moment in time it was suspended outside of the water?

Of course it can. Parts of it dissolve, others rise to the surface because of lower density. Sh1t is getting to the top of that bowl, no matter if you can see it or not. Flushing helps.

Or perhaps water acts as a sort of 'superconductor'? Lossless transfer... scary stuff :Q

I would like to see research on this topic of water being sort of a superconductor. If true, it would definately be quite frightening and lead to massive flushing... similar to what happens during the first commerical break of the Super Bowl... on a regular basis.

some toilet's water level is really low so parts can stick out of the water

it really depends on a variety of factors, load size, density, shape, hardness, water level etc.

it's a load of crock, perpeptuated by evil nefarious villains who want us to get toilet water on our bums.

Not to mention that water, according to many of ATOT Scientoligisticals, is quite nasty!

it's a good thing it ain't lunch time yet.

I think bathrooms should have timed air-freshener dispensers... one spray every 5-10 minutes...

dont know why, but it does help...no reasons here though cause i dont understand it

Does it really? or is it one of those placebo effects?

All stalls should be soundproof, smellproof, and entirely contained. I do not wish to see someone's feet dangling. Never did understand the courtesy flush myself. I thought that was to mask the sound.

It might be just me, but when I poop, I poop in great volumes..

There is so much, that the top will be above the water.., so It stinks..

I usually flush when I'm at work so that I can continue to poop..

I don't mind the smell of my own poop, but I'm sure everyone else hates it..

It comes out like toothpaste, when you squeeze it. Makes a nice circular pyramid, just like a ice cream cone..
