The cost to ship two 19 cent washers to Iraq....

rudder

Lifer

$998,798

The scary thing is this went on for years. Based on the fact that the items were going to a war zone.. the software automatically approved the bill from the contractor. You would think there would be some error checking in the process.

The scheme unraveled in September after a purchasing agent noticed a bill for shipping two more 19-cent washers: $969,000. What if the pruchasing agent called in sick that day... talk about lack of oversight.

I've got to go now. I need to go check my Haliburton stocks.

Puts the $1,000 dollar hammers into perspective, eh? But I'm sure our government could run national healthcare very effectively 😀

Ripping off Uncle Sam during the Iraq debacle seems to be a national sport among many companies. This company is pretty minor league though. You need to rip off billions to make the majors.

Stupid. They got caught cause they were greedy. I never ask for more than $199k (Less than 200 is the sweet spot) when I ship my washers.

So what do you think about Medicare compared to the rest of our private payer system?

Decentralize and starve them (taxes) while you still can.

I really wasn't trying to hijack the thread. If you are interested - there is a very good discussion going on in this thread. Which reminds me, I probably have some trolls to follow up with there.

Says the one who comes into the thread and adds no content*. And who is we? Truthers? Here's a nice cup of STFU, followed by DIAF for dinner.

*I guess I shouldn't be pot/kettle, so here's my on-topic content. Actually Medicare has improved pretty dramatically over the years working with private insurance to catch fraudulent claims. Sounds like the Pentagon could learn from them.

just exposing the tip of a huge out of control iceberg, imho. untangling that mess will probably cost just as much or more as leaving it be.

it's the proverbial auditor's nightmare come true, and by design, i might add.

And they were the ones who got caught... By accident no less...

Can you imagine how much of this is still going on? Maybe not in Million Dollar chunks but $10k here, $5k there... I'm sure UPS Red to Baghdad is insane but come on...

Don't they have hardware stores in Iraq? On the surface it seems pretty stupid to have to send back to the states for washers, no matter what the cost??

Well, considering the fact that the US already pays more via taxes for privatized healthcare than any nation does for general helthcare your argument is kinda silly, is it not.

TBH i do believe that healthcare should be universal but kept in the private sector, so i guess i'm a bit off there because government run facilities are expensive and manage to produce less than one thenth of their privatly owned counter parts at the same ingoing and outgoing costs.

Or at least that is how it works outside of the US, in the US it's the other way around.

Seriously, you pay almost 50% more than us via taxes and not everyone is covered, counting insuranse you pay over sex THOUSAND percent over us and still not everyone is covered.

There comes a time when even the most arrogant idiot must see the truth.

What a coincidence. I am personally driving two 19 cent washers to Sacramento sometime in the wee hours of tomorrow morning. I have them tucked in the corner of my trunk in my caddy. Life is just damn strange.
