The Console 3D(TV) Gaming Thread

I wanted to have a thread where those of us with the capability can discuss the current slate of 3D console games, as well have a list of current 3D-enabled games for those who are picking up supported televisions and want to hop right in. Console 3D gaming is still in its infancy, so it's nice to know what's out there and what games work well with it. There's probably not too many of us on here with a 3DTV, but let's see how it goes.

This thread is NOT for discussion about 3D technology as a whole and whether or not you like it. Go here for that kind of discussion.

I've filled out what I know from the top of my head, there's a LOT missing though, especially on the PS3. This is just a rough first draft though. If anybody has played a game and can confirm it supports 3D, then please list it so I can add it to the list.

Cool thread

PS3 also has Super Stardust HD in 3d. Demo and game

Out of the 3 demos on Ps3.. Super Stardust seems to have the most 3d depth, but the Motorstorm demo was pretty impressive too.

Can't believe I forgot SSHD considering I own it 🙂. I think the 3D effect in SSHD is very well done due to them building the engine for 3D from the ground up. It isn't too useful for gameplay though, I think it's easier without the 3D effect.

I'm most smitten with Motorstorm 3D Rift though. I get a lot of crosstalk though, which ruins the experience somewhat, but the depth is still pretty fantastic, especially when coming off of the big jumps. While I'm not sure if the depth helps with positioning when trying to pass someone, it definitely doesn't hurt and is a LOT more fun.

With Wipeout HD, I just wasn't that impressed after reading other impressions about how it was the 3D tech demo to show off to friends. I disagree, it was a little underwhelming compared to Motorstorm for me.

Pretty much spot on.. Stardust's 3D wasnt particularly fun or entertaining, but that status menu or whatever that pops up at the end of the level has tremendous depth to it.

Motorstorm is my favorite so far.. Didnt notice too much if any crosstalk ( plasma).. I also didnt realize you could buy the whole game for $10.. gonna have to grab that.

Wipeout didnt impress me either.. It almost moved too fast, like the blurr effect they add to create the perception of speed killed the 3d effect. THB, I never really cared for these types of games anyway so maybe its just me..

I also picked up COD:BA (360).. It has a cool effect, definately takes some getting used to. One thing I cant get passed, is the aiming part.( where you bring the rifle up to your eye(s) ) just seems off to me in 3d.

Looking forward to checking out GT 5

I don't see anywhere that MLB 10 actually got the 3D patch. I know there was a 3D demo released last year but it has since been pulled from PSN, so it's no longer available. MLB 11 will be 3D enabled out of the box, though.

Crysis 2 3D is supposed to be amazing. They reversed it for the most part because their testers complained of eye fatigue when using traditional 3d. Almost everything in Crysis 2 apparently has depth behind the screen, instead of everything popping out. Kind of makes your tv or screen look like a window.

I downloaded the Crysis 2 demo the other night to give it a shot, but never could get placed into an online game, so I still haven't been able to try it out. Might make some time for it tonight to check it out. I've heard good things about the 3D effect. Killzone 3 demo will be out on the 15th I believe (a week earlier for PS+ members) with 3D support enabled.

I did try out 3D with Black Ops on the 360 a little more last night and I just don't care for it. It was in combat training on Firing Range, I figured multiplayer is where I'd use it the most (should I use it). The frame rate takes too big of a hit for it to be usable IMO, it was easily dipping down into the 20's, maybe lower at points. You're at a distinct disadvantage by using it. Plus I found it hard to switch focus from near-field to far quick enough in order to spot enemies.

EDIT: I wanted to add that I'm still really enjoying Motorstorm in 3D. The 3D Rift PSN game feels like a small teaser of what Apocalypse is going to be when it releases in April. I think it's worth the $10 just as a demo to show off to other gamer friends. For me, it's a real testament to how the 3D effect can really help games. Playing Motorstorm in 2D doesn't really interest me in the slightest, but I can't stop playing in 3D right now.
