The Conduit 6/23/09

This is a game I have been waiting for on the Wii.

A multiplayer sci-fi FPS with voice chat.

I hope it includes 4 player offline multiplayer. I also hope the single player game is great and lasts awhile.

I also hope this holds me over till whenever the hell Time Splitters 4 comes out. I also think a Tribes game on the Wii would kick ass. Tribes: Aerial Assault on PS2 was very under rated.

Anyone else looking forward to this game?

Wonder if well get downloadable maps?

im interested. i just hope the controls are better than metroid prime.. they were too slow.

the Wii needs a N64 goldeneye type of game

I just wish the graphics didn't look like garbage compared to any other online multiplayer shooter these days. My Wii has been disconnected from my TV since Thanksgiving, I'm so sad for it 🙁

I didn't think Metroid Prime 3 was slow? It plays like it should to me. Am I missing something? I guess the Metroid games aren't faced paced to begin with?

I have played Metroid, Super Metroid and Prime 3. I was gonna get Prime and Prime 2, but now that they are being released on the Wii with new controls. Anyways it seemed to play like the all the other games. I never felt held back or anything. I did tweak the controls though.

I haven't played much of the FPS games on the Wii. Just been slim pickings. Know what would really kick ass? If ID Software made a version of Quake Live as a Wiiware game with Wii Speak support. 😀

I sure as hell hope The Conduit is the first step in the Wii getting some kick ass shooters.

I just cant bring myself to care about this game. Maybe if I lived in an alternate universe where only the Wii exists, I might be able to get excited over it.

Because god knows what the world really needs right now is more sci-fi first person shooters.

There was once a time when I thought the Wii would solve all console FPS problems. I had quite a bit of fun with red steel, COD 3, and I *loved* Metroid Prime 3, even though it isnt really a shooter per se.

But then I tried to play COD:WaW online, and you know what....Wii FPS controls are only fun when you can take your time, and when precision doesnt matter. As much as we want it to be as good as a mouse, it isnt. Its impossible to hit things because the screen moves while you move your cursor. Thats why prime 3 didnt do away with the lockon...because its still needed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me like the only reason this game is special and gets any attention is because it's trying to do something that doesnt really seem worth doing in the first place.

And the game looks entirely boring and derivative. I'd still like to be proven wrong though.

But in general, people that want kick ass shooters with great graphics should buy a 360, PC or a PS3.

I'll probably try and give it a rental next week. I've still got another week on two games I rented for me and the kids so I don't have time for it until I return those.

I do want to play it though. If nothing else than to try out the customizable HUD and controls. If it lives up to the advertising I've seen in the previews, I'm hoping that other games will try and copy this.

What's sad is people that are so hung up on graphics that they won't even look at a great game just because it doesn't look pretty.

I'm not saying this is a great game but too many people are hung up on graphics.

I played it through 2 levels, yeah the graphics were on the xbox 1 side. but the gameplay,as soon as i get used to it. seems to be pretty decent.. The lock-on feature is ehhh. When you hit it, the gun almost seems like it aims elsewhere. Not that i want it to auto-aim, but it literally takes my gun after hitting lockout and goes in teh opposite direction

I played for around 2 hours last night. Game is friggin awesome. I'm not one to care much about how shiny everything is, control is everything to me, and this game has it in spades. The level of customization is stunning, and throwing 'nades could not feel more natural than it does. I think people wanting more out of the graphics are obviously expecting something from the Wii that they're never going to get. It's not going to magically have a 4 or 8 core CPU and a next-gen capable GPU, this is what you get. Eye candy lovers need not apply in most cases.

The only unfortunate part is that because it is a hardcore Wii game that isn't called "Conduit Party Games", it'll probably sell like 50k copies instead of the million seller it probably should be.

I'm saying it: This game is great, graphics be damned. And honestly, the graphics are pretty good for the platform. I have no complaints.

Just got it today, but have to goto work soon.... So my review will come later.

Now hopefully I can put the Wii Speak to some use.

Played through the training and the first mission...the words "for the wii" have never meant so much. You cant praise the game without qualifying it like that, because otherwise it's wholly unimpressive.

First - the control. The stock controls are terrible. I've tweaked them to the point where theyre decent, but I shouldnt have to tweak this myself - a simple choice between modes like metroid would have been much more preferable. I'm sure I could tweak them to the point of perfection, but I'm not the game designer, and I really shouldnt have to myself. It's not that I dont like Wii controls - MP3 and CoD control great, but they did without me having to futz around with it.

The graphics are terrible. It's not a technical issue, as its probably the most advanced Wii engine, but the art design is just so bland and uninteresting. Its stuck between a failed attempt at realistic and a failed attempt at stylized, all inspired by the equally lacking art style of halo.

The main problem here is that the gunplay just isnt satisfying. Call of duty 3 and WaW were satisfying - look down the scope, snap off single rifle shots, or spray with a SMG - it was just so fun in those games. Here, you cant look down the sight, even if some guns can "zoom." The AI is borderline retarded, and it reminds me in a lot of ways of perfect dark zero - everyone takes a 5-6 shots to drop, and they dont even react in the slightest bit to being shot. In CoD, if you shot someone, you *shot* them - most of the time, one bullet does it, but even if it didnt, theyll stagger around before they get up. Even red steel had more satisfying gunplay.

And above all, the game is just so entirely lacking in personality. There's not a single thing about it that isnt absolutely and entirely derivative. Its like they took parts of "the matrix" and "national treasure" movies, and mixed it with parts of halo and perfect dark, sucked out all the personality and originality, and what you're left with is a competent yet somehow entirely boring and bland final result.

If you're one of the very few people that somehow manage to care enough about hardcore video games just enough that you like FPS games, but not enough to buy a 360, PS3 or gaming PC, and you really hate WW2, then you've found your game. Otherwise, buy either CoD for the Wii, or buy a 360.

Went through a few more missions.

There's no doubt that this is a competent shooter, and the actual mechanics of the gameplay are rock solid.

But man, I find it so hard to like the game. Its so unoriginal, so unabashedly ripping off other games that it's just a turn off. There's even short aliens with high pitched voices. Really. The level design is so boring, the same ripoff, bland aliens and secret agents attack you that the game feels a bit more like work than play.

I have virtually no motivation to play through this game other than that I paid for it, so I'll finish it. If the programming team could have been teamed up with an art and design group that had some inspiration and creativity, this could have been an awesome game. But this is shameful.

Unless you've never played a video game before. Then it might be awesome. But it'll also probably be way over your head. 😛

I hate playing shooters on consoles, and the Wii has the worst controller of all for this. Since you cant get demos for the Wii... I doubt Ill buy this at launch. It does look interesting though.

I just can't get into this game. Technically it is well done, but everything else is mediocre and boring. The art, visuals, sound, story, etc are just flat out boring. I like the controls and I appreciate the options they give you, but it's not doing much to keep me playing. At this point I just want to finish it asap so I can play other games on my 360/wii. To be fair, I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but I generally never play multiplayer on the wii.

Ok my take on what ive played sooo far... possible level spoiler i dunno...

I'm at the part where you the guy says "with your death" and you have to go blow up all he portals...well i dunno what there were thinking.that part is just way to hard with the control's.. i spent a good 20-30 mins tweaking the controls before i found somehting i could live with. and i still cannot get past that part. it almost seems as if you kill one wave at the entrance and they send double that. If very aggravating.

overall the game probaly got the rating it deserved, and thats probaly like a 7 out of 10. its nothing new, we've seen humans shooting humans shooting aliens (half-life 1) or even as far back as doom. the controls even though there highly customizable, i think thats what makes them very crappy. you never find a spot that you like, because you can still change something.

im about 88% through the game..

there is only one redeeming quality this game has... bbut thats overshadowed by the genericness it offer's. I felt like i was playing halo 1 in a way. The graphics are worse than that. but not totally horrible.

Sorry to perform some thread necromancy, but I had high hopes for this game, rented this game via gamefly, played it for about 2 hours, and sent it back 🙁

Figures, i had just beat Batman Arkham Asylum and to play this after that... well it didn't have a chance.

I haven't really played it...........I need to get some Wii friend codes so I can use the damn Wii Speak......

I can't stand playing online games without any sort of chat. Finding and adding in random friend codes to hope to get people who own a frigging Wii Speak is nuts.

Yea, I had a similar experience. Unfortunately the game is fairly boring. I was looking forward to it at E3 and when I played it my initial impression was...not so good. But sometimes that could mean nothing at trade shows, so I waited to play the full retail and it was just as boring.

I think this game got attention because it's a first person shooter on the Wii with Metroid-like controls. There was some Half-Life similarities thrown out there by some media/jurnos but I certainly didnt see it.
