:Q

I have (had?) a BH6, updated to the SS bios, installed my 566 @ 850 @ 1.8v and boom is all works great. 64 meg cl3 pc100 sdram, bh6 and the 566 on an MSI adapter card. (also a voodoo3 2000)

I play around, watch it reboot and the such, and put it away so that the next day I can install my hdd and other stuff.

No shame in that right? Quit while you're ahead? It all works fine, I set it in the corner of my room, with the case on and go to bed........

zzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz......

Wake up, next day, jump out of bed.

All happy, yay 850 is a big upgrade from a 300a @ 505. I plug it all in and start it up and look at the computer monitor to see:

NOTHING :|

WTF

tear it all apart 100 times a rebuild it. No beeps, all I can get is the keyboard lights stay on. Anyone know what the hell is going on?

Anyone else with a BH6 that upgraded to newest bios and have troubles?

I'm gonna go cry.... :(

Hmmmm... Now that I ponder about it, something IS fishy.

You might get more help at General Hardware. I can suggest a step by step installation of the cpu and board, then memory, then the cards.

And do a reboot of the BIOS defaults. Try setting the speed back to 566 too.

Maybe that will help.

Ok... Now you mention it...

Try replacing the CPU back to the original CPU you had to see if it is just the CPU you got.

I'd but my 300a or 333a back in to test, but guess what?

Some, ahem, unfortunate motherboard burnt them both out. That motherboard, well, let's just say I'm not quite done with it yet.,

THe 333 would do 416 and the 300 would do 505

I tried default at both speeds, 1.8 and 1.85 at both speeds
and I have a big ass heat sink & fan combo on it that is making good contact w/ paste too

I dunno if the auto select in the bios is fucking it all up or what
I'm lost....

no noise whatsoever

with agp video, you get nothing
with 3 different pci cards (1 at a time) in any of the slots, all you get it a little flash at power on, nothing more

and it just sits there, fans going nuts

and the caps, num and scroll lock lights just stay lit, and you cant change them you press the caps button but th elight stays on (ps2 kb)

"the cpu wont work at all, default 566 or 850 "

How can you tell if you can't see the screen at all to set it up? Somehow, you can get into the BIOS at one point in time when you are troubleshooting.

ah, ok
the 566 is flipchjip
I set it all up on the MSI adapter card
the BH6 is slot

and it's all autoserlect in the bios
the failsafe feature should allow it to at least boot at 233 mhz

but I adjust voltage, bus speed and all that jazz on the socket to slot adapter card

Try moving the CCMOS jumper.. clear the cmos.. should make it so the computer will boot again... my computer did this before too when I changed the CPU speeds around.

This happened on my K7 Pro.

Make sure the heatsink isn't touching any of the voltage regulation electronics. On my K7Pro it did which caused exactly what you are describing.

Is your power supply working right? Maybe you burnt it out? Yeah I know it's coming on, but is it sending enought power to everything??

Did you leave the jumper on the BH6 to that position of clear? You should just only touch it and set it back to normal.

I'll check the heat sink cleanance in a sec...

but as for the cmos jumper

1-2 is normal operation
2-3 is clear

I've cleared it about 30 times so far since this upgrade
and always replaced it back to 1-2
i've even used the screw driver to short 2-3 to clear a few times, but not while the jumper is on,,,, this is really getting strange.

I tried moving the ram around again, each slot with a different cpu config and video card config

I have no way to test the power supply, tho thats a good idea

I think I should take it to the store and ask them nicely to test it for me?
each component I mean
