Asian cooking is quite simple.

1) Prepare rice.
2) Taste rice.
3) Decision point: Does it taste good?
3a) No. Stop, you're done.
3b)Yes. Goto 4.
4) Add fermented fish head sauce to rice.
5) Goto 3.

authentic asian food is mediocre at best. You get the take-out stuff where they put all the artificial flavors/ingredients in - that's the good stuff. They do it because it tastes better.

I just got this book and was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. seem pretty good, 5 stars with nearly 50 reviews. 800 recipes tho, I'm not sure if I'll ever cook them all.

A friend basically gave it to me (as I cook much more than he does) but I haven't used it in a while.
There are a few recipes I've tried (the only one I generally can remember off the top of my head is the schezuan chicken), but I haven't tried probably 9/10 of the book.

If I remember correctly, my biggest issue is that a lot of the more interesting recipes seem to ask for spices that I don't have and don't quite know where to get.

Other than that, I like it quite a bit.

If it doesn't have recipes for cat stew, dog BBQ, or turtle soup, it doesn't qualify as an Asian cookbook at all.

Olive Garden is the best Italian restaurant. Red Lobster the best seafood. PF Change the best Chinese. :p. j/k

At least Olive Garden is cheap. How Red Lobster and PF Change charges premium for its crappy food and gets away with it is one of the great mysteries of the restaurant business.

Red Lobster is usually in areas where people have no idea what good seafood is. How many Red Lobsters do you see in New England? Not many if any at all.

I am actually surprised that the one in NY stays open....

there are a few asian markets in my area that I'm going to check out for the more uncommon things.
