"The Colony" on Discovery Channel

MotionMan

Lifer
I watched every episode of "The Colony" on Discovery Channel. The last episode was earlier this week. I found the ending to be very unsatisfying.

Anyone else who watched the show agree? Or did I miss something about the show that you can explain to me?

I, unfortunately, have not had the pleasure of watching this show. Could you please summarize the events of the first few episodes in one or two short paragraphs. Thanks.

Yeah, the ending kinda sucked. The show was mildly entertaining, but it would have probably been better if they hadn't pretended it was a reality show and just used actual actors.

It may have been a corny moment, but I wanted to see them arrive at their destination in San Diego.

What if the message was a fake?!?

Pretty much. They spent 6 episodes showing the group working to get their truck fixed up so they could leave without any payoff.

The premise is interesting, but after reading the Episode summaries(haven't watched it) it sounds too contrived.

stopped watching after they "made" a device for the solar panels to follow the sun. producers really wanted to make that mad scientist looking guy appear smart.

It required a certain suspension of disbelief but I think the people on the show really fell into character after a bit and themselves believed they were actually in the scenario. The last episode was kinda weird that they were being attacked and defending themselves and then all of a sudden it's morning and they are driving out. Also there's no way they could have driven that thing to San Diego because there's real civilization in between.

Maybe it's just be but the area they were in reminded me of HL2 and I kept waiting for headcrabs to pop out of nowhere. 🙂

Thank you, my friend. Your name shall not be forgotten.

Do you ever get tired of translating thoughts into oddball posts?

The things they built were interesting.
The things they "found" in the warehouse were ludacris. A book on blimps? wat.
The mauraders were lame.
The experts stating obvious things in expert-speak nearly made the show unwatchable.

I wanted to choke that Psychologist who kept basically kept saying "people get angry when you take away decent food and water, and harass them with invaders every night for six weeks" every time someone got angry on the show. Gee... no shit.

The inventions that they came up with were cool (like the wood gasifier and solar power system), but something tells me that if you're in a REAL survival scenario, your group of 12 survivors isn't going to contain 8 people who all just happen to be experts at either engineering, electronics, or heavy construction. You're probably going to get far more whiny twits who can't do much of anything... like your typical season of Survivor.

Oh, and the ending was lame. I wanted to see if that truck was actually going to make it to San Diego!

I bet they were happy to have that marine biologist!!!

I agree (that is actually what prompted me to start this thread in the first place).

I am with you guys on this one. I liked the premise of the show, I thought the maraders were lame, kinda cool though when andre and his woman showed up to steal shit. I thought that was somewhat interesting. But the ending, crap. Especially when one guy says " La is my city! I am going to stay behind and help!" and then leaves the group. lame...

Yep, watched every episode.

I couldn't ever get past that they were supposed to somehow magically forget it was all fake even though they had a camera crew following their every move.

I'm wondering if the next season will pick up with these same people in the new place that's 130miles south of them or if it'll be all new people?

I was fairly entertained the whole season though, it was neat seeing them make a bunch of shit but of course the average person wouldn't have those items on hand or the know how.

Isn't this the show where people with guns show up and threaten them, but do nothing to the defensless people? I saw a clip for something where someone said no guns allowed or some such shit. That right there turned me off to the show because in a real situation like this, the people with the guns will get whatever they need from those without.
