What the what indeed.

First minute: “The Worlds energy reserves will be gone in 5 years”

Gone? So the sun will stop shining, the wind will stop blowing, the rivers will stop flowing, and Uranium will no longer be radioactive?

WTF?

I just watched it. Definitely isn't a....good....movie...but many people say it's hard to follow and confusing. Those people are slow. The power thing and the ongoing wars and rundown city did seem a bit out of place considering none of that was an issue in the first movie (that it was trying to tie to) and happened over the same time period. They could have left ALL of that out and simply stated they were working on an infinite power source and left it at that.

It could have been a good movie, but it was lazy writing and storytelling. They should have just completely left all the home teams 'earth' stuff out past the beginning video call and had them land at the end and encounter the monster. It would have flowed smoother.

It was pretty bad.

Oddly, the acting was well done (considering what they had), and I dug the sci-fi stuff (we don't have enough imo) but the story was just garbage.

The notion that we'd, for whatever reason, be 'out of energy resources' I guess implies that in this universe, hydro/solar/wind power don't exist, which brings up the question of how the station is even powered I guess. Along with that, the notion that we'd send up an experimental particle accelerator into space? for some reason? rather than keeping it on the ground? Makes no sense... the notion that it'd fail to work, and that for two years they'd be ... changing things? or something? to try more configurations to eventually make it work? still no sense found.

And then monsters, because Cloverfield.

I think the trailer looks intense. So the full movie is out on Netflix? Sweet, I'll definitely watch it this weekend. I've liked the past Cloverfield-tagged movies (though that friend of the main characters' in the first movie, the big-mouth-nonstop-talker was f'ing annoying) so hopefully I will this one.

Hmmm. Now that I think of it, Cloverfield movies have insane hotties. The first one had Odette Yustman and the second... oh billy... MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD (my future wife).

EDIT: Apparently this movie is also known as "God Particle." I do remember seeing a trailer for it several months back but I don't recall anything about it. I just know I've heard of it before.

I agree that the world energy reserves being gone was a bit weird considering the current available alternatives.

I liked it overall. With the info from this movie, it clear that each movie involves a different 'Earth'. This was suggested when the 2nd movie was released and now we basically have confirmation.

They really need to stop using the Cloverfield name.

That's my objection too. The 10 Cloverfield Lane movie was fine, but the connection with Cloverfield was gratuitous and shoe-horned in where in didn't belong. This one looks the same. They took what seems like a reasonably interesting sci-fi premise and added some Deus Ex Machina stuff to voodoo it into the Cloverfield universe where it doesn't belong.

FWIW there's a 4th movie in the franchise supposedly coming out this fall, Nazi Germany using supernatural forces in WW2. That's been done to death and always badly. And it's yet another completely unrelated movie that will be somehow attached to Cloverfield through smoke and mirrors.

I love sci fi, but I really don't like it when shows or movies go with the alternate dimension/timeline shit. It's such a cop out and let's the writers do whatever they want and they can always explain away issues with "well it's an alternate dimension".

No, it's just lazy writing.

There are lots of hotties in every day IRL, but I was STUNNED by Odette Yustman in Cloverfield. Holy hell, I was like "wtf her face is perfect". She's absolutely mesmerizing. She was in House (tv show) and didn't look THIS hot as seen in Cloverfield.

That's because the Odette from Cloverfield was from another timeline.

- Cloverfield fans, probably.

Yeah man she's insanely gorgeous. I do agree with you actually, I see tons of beautiful girls in real life. There's a few that are my favorites from movies/TV, but honestly I see gorgeous girls about every time I go to the grocery store or Walmart or whereever.

It really bothered me that the crew seeing each other die off didn't really question why things were happening as they were regardless of being in another dimension. Oh, guy loses arm in the wall... let's just make jokes while we move on. Oh, the room just started filling with water on its own... doh we couldn't get her out in time... oh well, let's move on.

This made it feel like a cheap thriller flick that just wanted to kill people off and we were supposed to be scared but it didn't even try hard at that. May as well have jettisoned who they didn't need all in 1 shot.

The arm was the best part of that movie. They ruined that part too because the arm knew something they didn't...and they didn't even explore how it knew. And while the worms and gyro part was cool ----- it made no sense in the context of the movie since it was too perfect...and should have killed him immediately.

Yeah, wanted to like it, didn't. Loved the arm (especially when they cut to it drumming its fingers! LOL!), but seriously, there were so many stupid moments in that "movie," (worms? why? blasted into another dimension/world/planet?) I just keep on watching to see how bad it could get.

The movie suffered a lot from lack of consistency in theme/genre.

Watched this a couple nights ago on Netflix. I'd give it 4/10. Bleh, didn't like it much. I realized before watching it, while doing a brief Google (Bing, lulz) search that it is the movie that was originally previewed as "The God Particle." I remember seeing the trailer or preview for THAT named movie before, a couple times at least, and not being impressed at all with it.

This movie felt like a crappy rip-off of Event Horizon and I didn't think it did anything new at all. I dunno, I guess the acting was ok. The best thing about the movie was the very end
when their escape pod goes down through the clouds and that big ass monster comes up out of them
.

Yeah, this movie was pretty weak sauce. Maybe Netflix should stick to TV series?
They didn't make the movie or produce it or anything. They bought the rights to it after it was made. Literally did it as a marketing stunt because it was not expected to be out in the theaters for months then boom announced it during the super bowl.

Part Event Horizon, part Final Destination with thinking up clever ways for people to die for no reason and every bad horror and sci-fi movie cliche ever concocted all rolled up into one giant pile of stink.

One of the worst movies I've ever watched, I sat through it just to see how bad it could possibly get and the answer is "a lot". No matter how stupid it is at any point, just keep watching and it will, without fail, get even worse.
the cloud monster is the only thing that ties it to Cloverfield in any way and an insult to anyone that went in hoping to see some connection. Without that, it would have been released as "God Particle" and probably been the biggest flop of the year, the Cloverfield name is the only reason why anyone will want to see it and they'll be disappointed.

The premise wasn't bad, the execution was horrible. I realize it wasn't written as a Cloverfield story, but it's like they didn't even try. Supposedly JJ had very little to do with it.

Regardless...it still gets an A++ for marketing.
