my mother got me onto this. i would visit, and she'd be watching this show called The Closer, which i had never heard about.

like Sylvester Stallone hitting his stride with Rocky, i think the same thing is true with The Closer & Kyra Sedgwick (Kevin Bacon's wife, actually - they've been married for about 20 years.).

2 of my favorites - one of the early ones when a retired sniper is searching for his son, who is also a sniper, and is shooting gang members from the gang who shot his wife.

then, from the 5th season, when her niece "Charlene/Charley", played by her actual daughter Sosie Bacon, comes to visit. Charley gets some marijuana in the mail and makes chocolate brownies. Deputy Chief Brenda Lee eats 3 of them. It shows them dancing around, having fun as aunt-niece/ mother-daughter.

i thought the acting in that one was great - Sedgwick did a great job of portraying a mild overdose.

though i think the writers screwed up a little bit. she ate a triple serving - that probably would not have been a mild overdose.

I'm a fan of The Closer as well. I liked the ones with Charlene/Charley too. But, anything with Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson was good :)

when they flash the credits, all i have figured out is - her husband is Corey Reynolds.

Chief Pope - who plays him ?

Detective Sargeant Gabriel, Tao, the Hispanic cop, Flinn & Provenza - which actors play them ?

The sort-of gay coroner, the tall geeky coroner who has the hots for Brenda - they have some good actors playing some of the back-up roles.

The other thing they didn't really explain - the African American lady cop with the nice butt - Irene Daniels - she just completely no-showed at the beginning of Season 5. So her affair with Gabriel just plain ended. They barely explained it - she got promoted and basically dumped Gabriel. I figure the actress either died or wanted too much money, so they wrote her out of the plot.

I wonder if they'll make a movie after the TV show stops at the end of this season.

Chief Pope is played by J.K. Simmons, who played a psychiatrist on Law & Order. He's in some insurance commercials now. Tao is Michael Paul Chan, who played the Korean storekeeper in Falling Down and the Chinese "Cultural Attache" in U.S. Marshals.

Any episodes that is Flinn/Provenza centric.
"Dial M for Provenza", which guests Jennifer Coolidge (Stifler's Mom in American Pie), is hilarious.

OK, i'm actually saving this thread.

Thanks for the info !

who plays Rayder, the other woman manager ? she does a great job of playing a socially awkward, stiff, rhymes-with-witch.

Mary McDonnell, probably best known for her role as President Roslin in the Battlestar Galactica remake. I remember her as the First Lady in Independence Day.

well, i would have to say that she has considerable range as an actress.

GOOD - this give me a reason to go back and watch Independence Day. i like the scenes with the talking hostile Extra-terrestrial jellyfish guy.

Tao is Michael Paul Chan, who played the Korean storekeeper in Falling Down and the Chinese "Cultural Attache" in U.S. Marshals.

Tao plays a similar role in "The Insider", about tobacco industry whistleblower Jeffrey S. Wigand.

in their, he is Al Pacino's tech guy for a 60 minutes interview. Pacino plays a 60 minutes producer who helps Wigand find a way to tell his story without breaking his confidentiality agreement, by being deposed in a criminal case filed in another state.

Chan is doing what he does in The Closer - the tech guy who can solve all problems. sort of McGyver-ish.

i still liked the episode when they needed to delay the turnover a suspect and Flinn/Provenza (the skinnier of the 2) dials a number to turn on the Bomb Alert Siren. given how much he disliked Brenda Lee at the beginning, it was funny.
