The click of death?

I set up a new system about a month ago. The new board has SATA and I installed 2 Hitiachi 80 gig 7200 rpm in raid zero. I have never experienced the infamous "click of death" so I'm not quite sure what I am hearing. It is sort of a rattling but not constant or synchronized. The drives are in a Sonata case and there are only two screws (special screws for the rubber grommets on the Sonata case drive mounting gadgets) on each drive becasue I only received 4 such screws with the case. Hopefully I'm hearing vibrations because of the unbalaced mounting of the drives (one screw in each opposite corner diagonally). Otherwise the system works fine with an Intel 865 PERLK mobo and an 2.8E CPU with a meg of dual channel memory. Using the onboard sound and lan with an MSI FX 5900XT video card. The noise has only become noticeable in the last week or so. Thanks for your input.

a) Take the side off the case.
b) Boot the system (if it isn't already running).
c) Feel the top of the drive(s) while the sound is occuring.
d) If you feel the "click" then the drive is dying.
e) If you don't feel the "click" then use your eyes, ears, and fingers to determine where it is coming from.

Thanks a heap! Nothing as bad as those clips you provided, just a quiet rattling with no connection as far as I can determine to what the drives are doing. I'll drag it out from under my computer desk and try what you suggest. Thanks again.

99% sure it's the side of your case rattling.
I have a similar Antec case, and that's all it is... i fixed it with some rubber feet i bought.
happens to both my Antecs actually.

Geez, it's almost a morbid feeling hearing a hard drive dying so horribly. Those head crashes sound really horrible too, and the knowledge that your hard drive is in the process of having its data literally shorn off the platters. That spindle failure didn't sound too good either.
