this has got to be one of the most beautiful buildings that never was. maybe they'll make a longer movie out of it.

I don't know how Chicagoans feel but I feel the same way about it as I do the two holes in the ground in New York City.

These holes represent America's failure.

Instead of the country that got things done, now we lose.

There is no good reason why we send billions upon billions to foreign countries while we have these three giant holes in the ground, bridges falling down all over the place and all our jobs sent overseas.

The only reason I know of why this happened is one word I can't say in here anymore but thank god he will be gone 1/20/2009.

Now whatever is wrong with you, that isn't contagious is it?

Looks like a bolt extractor. I hope it gets built. It is very Chicago, it would be a great addition to the city. No, I'm not sarcastic, this design I like.

Haven't been down there in a while, but I would imagine the new Trump Tower in Chicago is also on hold due to financing at the moment.

They topped it's final height Septemer 24th of this year:

Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago)

On August 16, 2008, construction crews made the last major concrete pour to top off the Trump tower's concrete core, which was commemorated with an unofficial ceremony.

To celebrate the milestone, a yellow tower crane raised a bucket full of concrete and an American flag to the rooftop of the skyscraper. Another ceremony occurred on August 19, when construction supervisors, structural engineers and company representatives from McHugh Construction made a minor concrete pour at the top of the Trump tower.[101]

Though Donald Trump was absent from both of these ceremonies, he, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump attended the topping off party on September 24, 2008.

In October, the windows on the top floors will be completed and the spire will be erected.[102][103] At the topping off ceremony, Donald Trump marketed his hotel by expressing doubts about the Chicago Spire ever being completed due to the Financial crisis of 2007-2008.[104][105] The hotel was 25% unsold at the time of the ceremony and in mid 2009 it may need a construction loan extension,[106] but Donald, Jr. said that they were fortunate to complete the project while the Spire and Waterview Tower were among the developments hit by the slowdown.[107] Occupancy had begun on lower-floor condominiums at the time of the ceremony

So now you're upset when the rich don't get their fancy buildings? Why do you side with the rich Dave?

Perhaps they should build a smaller tower that they might actually be able to fill with perspective condo buyers right now? It would make a less attractive target to terrorists as well... not to mention that it would look a bit less like a "giant penis" like TallBill said.

It will probably be built eventually but not for a couple more years at least. The Spire project is in better shape than Waterview which is a conspicuous empty hulk along the river that's probably going into foreclosure.
