I think they nailed it. This is definitely the most noteworthy car to come out in the last 12 months. Kudos to GM for not screwing this up.

My friend had a Volt and Spark on day 1, and has his Bolt on order since they started taking them. He should have it soon I think and I'll be able to do a lot of testing on it. Sounds really good so far!

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Bolt EV is there are no caveats, no “for an electric car” qualifiers needed in any discussion.
I disagree

The Bolt EV is the first conceived from the get-go by GM to be a viable, affordable mass-market electric vehicle.
...
It’s not quite correct to say the Bolt EV drives just like a regular small hatchback, because, fundamentally, it drives better than most regular small hatchbacks.
...
$37,495 seems a lot for a compact hatchback

Price as tested - $41,780*

A 40K car is better than the average 25K car.
Who would have thought?

For an electric car, its a great deal.
For another compact hatchback appliance, you have to keep adding in that "for an electric car"

Yes it's $40k, but the first 200,000 sold in the US will be about $30k after rebates.

And unless you are using public charging stations only (most people charge @ home at $0.10-$0.20 lkper kwH) you will spend WAY less on electricity over 100k miles than you would on say, gas for a 28-30k GTI (~$10,000 w/ premium). Plus no oil changes among other maintenance.

Even without the tax break I doubt it's really any more expensive to own than a GTI over 100k miles. With the tax break it's probably cheaper.

Basically this only won't work for you if you take lots of road trips. Otherwise it can easily satisfy 95% of people's needs assuming it can haul what you need to haul.

But one can rent for road trips. Unless you are on road trips all the time. come 2018, might have to lease one of these.

Soon you'll probably be able to see them at dealers. Nobody has one yet though.

Not true - the 200,000 is per manufacturer - not per vehicle. So Volt's & Spark EV's all count against that cap.
True. I think they aren't making anymore Sparks though. I could be wrong.
I didn't realize Volts got the rebate either. Oh well.. for some people it'll be a really good deal 🙂 if you want one at that price better get one soon then!

I was at a dealer on Saturday and was told they had some in California but that we wouldn't see any for a few months.
